I have a problem: What do you ladies do when you get asked out for dinner? Which is quite often in my case. My kids or my Mum or my friend all invite us round for tea,I explain that I'm dieting and they all say the same: "Just once won't hurt" but when it's all of them it's more than once. I've tried to explain but they don't seem to get it and don't realise they are a collective. My kids and Mum especally love to cook for us and I feel like I'm slapping them in the face if I say "no thanks". I've got to go to Mum's tomorrow who has bought chicken in a thick creamy sauce! I have insisted on new potatoes etc but still. How would you handle it? xx

Is the chicken already in the sauce or could you ask for yours to be put out without? Perhaps you could ask your family to come to you instead so that you could then be in control? You could always use flexible syns as well if you need to, but that would depend on how often you're going out to eat :P When it comes to eating out in a restaurant, it's all about making the right choice - oh, and carveries are bad, we found out in group a couple of weeks ago that a carvery could actually cost you up to 30 syns because of the hidden things they do, for instance they inject the meat with fat to keep it moist and coat all the vegetables in butter :S

Thanks for that Pennieb. Yep the chicken is already in the sauce, its a Tesco finest dish apparantly and she bought it specially. I think I may just have to educate them gradually. They dont get why I want to lose weight? to themI am just Mum or Daughter. I went for tea tonight and havent synned all day so I hope that will be enough? And thanks for the tip about the carveries, I didn't know that either xx

Onion, tinned tomatoes, mince (very low fat or quorn is the best, kidney beans, chilli powder or flakes.
Brown the mince remove/ drain excess fat, add chopped onions, and cook for further 5 mins, add tin of tomatoes, kidney beans and teaspoon (or more if u like hot) chilli or flakes.
This generally does it for me and is all free on extra easy
    Hope this helps

    Serves: 4
    Prep time: 15 minutes
    Cook time: 35 minutes
    Syns per serving:
    FREE on extra easy

    Fry Light, for spraying
    1 large onion, finely chopped
    2 garlic cloves, crushed
2 fresh chillies, deseeded and chopped
    2 tsps ground cumin
    1 tsp ground coriander
    1 tsp paprika
    A pinch of cayenne pepper
    1 x 397g/14oz can chopped tomatoes
    284ml/½ pint stock
    salt and ground black pepper
454g/1lb extra lean beef mince (or Quorn mince)
1 x 198g/7oz can red kidney beans, drained
chopped fresh coriander leaves, to garnish
1 level tablespoon of tomato puree

    1. Spray a large saucepan with Fry Light and fry the onion gently over a low heat for 6-8 minutes, until softened and golden.

    2. Add the garlic, chillies and all the spices and continue frying, stirring occasionally, for 2-3 minutes. Add minced, stirring until it begins to brown.

    3. Add the canned tomatoes, tomato puree and stock. Stir well and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer gently for 20 minutes, until the liquid is slightly reduced.

    4. Season with salt and pepper and add drained kidney beans. Heat through gently for about 5 minutes.

    5. Serve hot, sprinkled with chopped coriander leaves, with some plain boiled rice (Free on Green and Extra Easy, 2 Syns per 28g/1oz on Original) or jacket potato (Free on Green and Extra Easy, 2 Syns per 28g/1oz on Original) and a green salad.

Tip: A dollop of fat free natural yogurt on the top is extremely tasty and, if you’ve gone overboard on the chilli, it’s a great way to “cool” things down!

Replacing beef mince with Quorn mince turns this recipe into a vegetarian delight. The 3 Syns stay the same on Original and the whole recipe becomes Free on Green!

I made a delicious lunch yesterday: chicken breast boiled in with garlic and stock. I then used some of the boiling water to make some couscous. Then put it all in the same pan and added some chopped tinned tomatoes. It was really nice! Just thought I'd offer you one of my own slimming world 'free' inventions!

thanks twirler. i didnt have the best beakfast as didnt have time to go shopping after the meeting.
I had rice krispies cereal with little milk, from allowance, no sugar 5.5 syns.
for lunch i have pasta, tuna in a pasta sauce but h2b is having it aswell and we have made enough for 2 days so is only 1.25 syns. I hope i am working all this outright!!
Not sure what i will be having for dinner yet.
My problem is i play in a pub poker league on a wed where they do food so will have to try and work that out.

I think i will have 6.25 syns today. is that good?
also can i drink 2 cups of tea a day with no sugar and little milk?

I am sure i will get the hang of it, just getting used to different eating.
Sorry if i am going on a bit. Thanks for your help.xx
