Are there any brides who aren't having wedding breakfast meal and only having buffet at night ,?? Also do guests expect to get free drink, drinks ?? Second time bride and wanting things more informal.

We was planning on the wedding breakfast but we are now considering just a late wedding and a huge party instead we really was struggling with not being able invite some family to the wedding breakfast so we thought why not just have a buffett in the evening instead that way we dont have to leave anyone out. Im not sure if ppl expect a drink but I wont be providing one everyone will have to pay for their own.

Were skipping the breakfast, OH's family is huge, we didn't want separate day/evening guests but can't afford to feed everyone twice. So we have gone for a 4pm church wedding so by the time the ceremony, travel to reception & have photos it will be around 6. We'll then go straight onto buffet & partying, the buffet will be topped up throughout the evening.
We will be providing drinks until 7pm as the bar doesn't open till then, not sure exactly what drinks we'll provide yet though.

We were going to go for a 430pm wedding, then just an evening buffet, however the venue did not work like that and even at that time I would still of had to pay for the whole day, so we got married at 3pm, still had a buffet, but was sit down as the starter and desserts were served to us.

It's my 2 marriage as well and didn't want the traditional 3 course formal thing so instead we're having afternoon tea and Pimms for the daytime which is a lot more informal and much cheaper! Having a bigger party in the evening then. Xx

We are having both but in quite an informal way - we are only providing the drinks for the day time people and breakfast
People will have to buy their own in the evening

Due to lack of funds we are skipping the whole sit down meal thing and reception. Instead we are having our church wedding at 2pm and then a big evening party from 6pm til late which will include a buffet and access to two bars where guests can purcase their own drinks. We will be proviing toasting drinks but at this point in the budget that will be all in the way of free drinks unles we win the lottery before hand :D

We are having a late wedding and just a evening buffet. I would have loved to have both, though.

I was actually coming to ask the same question lol Basically what I am aiming for is a wedding about 2pm which will be going on for about an hour and after pics at church and people traveling to venue should be about 3:15-3:30 pm at this point I am hoping for a drinks receptions and canapés whilst me and the groom go for more pics as a beach is 5 mins away and of course hoping weather is fine . I was then hoping to either have more canapés and stuff like welsh cakes and then do a toast so have the speeches about 5 or5:30 ish then I was hoping for stuff to get sorted for the evening so about 7pm a buffet is open and people can stuff their faces lol My issue was for day guests if we did do a breakfast really with timing there would be only about 2 hours between food and evening stuff so kind of wasting money !

Does those times sound ok for waiting to eat ?

We are having ceremony and evening do in the same place so having ceremony at 3, sit down meal 4.30/5ish which leaves enough time for food and speeches before evening people arrive at 7.30ish for first dance and cake cutting at 8 which includes hot sandwiches later on.
I think if we weren't having the sit down meal out day guests would be getting hungry etc, definitely better to go for a later ceremony in that situation.

WelshBride, I would aim for a later ceremony or bring the buffet forward...i think going that long without food could make people restless as it is quite a long time if you factor in that people will probably have to have an early lunch to get ready and make their way to the ceremony...? Just an idea...

If you're having a later wedding then yeah why not? Will save you some pennies :)

We're having our wedding at 3 followed by canapes (which is starter) then a carvery style meal and then dessert will be served in the evening.

Our church ceremony is at 2pm. We have changed venue as originally we had a package that included sit down for 40. We couldn't afford to add extra people and we both have large families and felt guilty about some missing out.

So now we have changed to village hall and marquee and are having a hog roast, salads and buffet at around 5:30. There will also be a cake buffet. We're feeding everyone for about £5p/h.

We are paying for everyone to have a welcome drink, a pimms or peroni for £2p/h.

We're laid back people and didn't want anything formal, the only formality will be the ceremony, speeches and first dance xx

KittyHarris the problem we have is the latest the church does weddings on Saturday is 2pm so think buffet earlier might have to be an option
