Is anyone else having a sixpence in their shoe?? If I had one in mine I know it would be very uncomfortable. Is it right the father of the bride is meant to give it to her? The only way my step dad would give it to me would be if I purchased it first and gave it to him to give right back to me! LOL

I think I'm going to have one in mine, if it doesn't go in my shoe then I will find somewhere for it, like on the garter or bracelet or in the flowers or something. I know you can get them off the bay of E for not much at all. Didn't know the father of the bride was meant to give it to her though.

I've heard if you cover it with a plaster it helps make it more confortable
CommentAuthorGlitterfairy
I might buy one and give it to my step dad to give to me as we go in.
I hadn't heard of this. What is the significance of the sixpence do you know?

It's to bring wealth in the marriage.
The saying that goes Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence for her shoe.

I have one in my 'shoe'.However as i am wearing boots i have been able to attatch it to the side of the boot with a plaster and hopefully it shouldn't bother me too much.My Dad has lent me the sixpence as my 'something borrowed' (i didn't know that it was traditional for him to give it to me) Its a 1964 one which is the year of h2bs birth. He spent ages looking for a 1969 one for my year of birth befoe discovering that they stopped minting them in 1967 lol! xxx

I have one! Although I also have peeptoe shoes so not entirely sure what to.. Celotape maybe?! X
CommentAuthorInDreamland
I'm probably going to stick mine with a hypoallegenic plaster.
Can we put then on the soles of the shoes instead? near the heel so that it's not scraping on the ground? I think a lot of ladies often put "I do" stickers there. Rather than inside? Or must it be inside? xx

My mum told me about this. She was going to buy me one (for £60!!) which also came in a presentation bag, but then found hers that she had in her shoe on her wedding day so now I'm going to have that one. It'll be my something old, and we've decided to start a family tradition so I will give it to my daughter when she gets married and so on.

My shoes are open toed so think a small bit of sellotape shall be needed just to hold it in place. I did see charms that you can stick onto your garter, but then that takes it away from the tradition of sticking it in your left shoe.

I am sticking mine in my shoe under a plaster. Going to have a play with some tape first to get it in a comfy position then put a plaster over it.
CommentAuthorAimeeH1808
Do you just wear it down the aisle and for the ceremony or are you meant to wear it for the whole day?
CommentAuthorInDreamland
I reckon it's the whole day but happy to stand corrected if I'm wrong. So it's the left shoe I have to wear it in? xx

The shop i bought my dress from gave me an envelope with a card and a sixpence in it. You are supposed to wear it in your left shoe i believe?

I'm wearing one, going to stick it with a plaster to the inside of my shoe, on the inside side of my shoe, just above the arch, does that make sense LOL. My H2B has bought us 1 each, with our year of births,66 & 67, he is going to carry his in his pocket xx

CommentAuthorIzzy_w
Im thinking if I can borrow one from my Dad - he has a lovely chap come up to our farm who does metal detecting for a hobby. He hasnt found any roman gold yet (that we know of!) but he does find medieval coins. Bless him, he cleans them up and then hands them over to my Dad in a nice presentation box. Im pretty sure that there is a 16th centuary one in there with a quarter cut out of it (thats how they used to give change!!) I'll have to have a sneaky peek in the box and then start buttering my Dad up!! (Keep your fingers crossed for me ladies!!) x
