I'm not sure if Im being blind, but I was looking for a topic on food, I guess budgetting comes close, as part of my issue is money related
I was thinking we could have a later ceremony, and completely bypass the sit down meal, just in favour of the buffett later on. But his mum mentioned that if we dont do the sit down meal, then how are we gunna do the speeches as the guests all sit down, have speeches then just kinda... hang around with no food. Raining on my parade! How rooood. But she kinda has a point lol, I didnt think about what we'd actually do once we went from ceremony to reception if we dont have the sit down meal
how does it work skipping the meal, or is that not an option? I dont really want to be a skin flint over it, but I kinda do at the same time because the prices per head are astonomical, and Im being a bit of a bridezilla beacuase I want THIS venue, and you cant bring in outside caterers.. do I just have to lump it and save extra hard?

We had a buffet for our London party. We simply got the DJ to do an announcement to say we were about to cut the cake, then whilst people were gathering round the staff came and gave everyone a drink to toast us. We didn't have speeches as such, but we did say thanks to everyone coming. Maybe you could do it in a similar way?

Snap i cant enven begin to think about having to do a table plan with my family so we were thinking the same as like you i found a really lovely venue but the prices for the sit down meal are far to much and nothing really appeals to me on the menu so we are planning on going for "sit down" hot folk buffet so can do speeches then just a finger buffef later in the evening.

sit down and buffet, do the speech before everyone start to eat

we were having a sit down meal but with me now expecting and not being able to work and not bringing any money money in we had to change plans. we are now having a cold fork buffet, its £10 cheaper per head and the kids are having a typical childrens meal for a fiver each so we have saved loads. we're still having it as a sit down meal where a table at a time goes up to get there food then sits down to eat but deserts are served to the table. so we still have our seating plan. hope this helps xxx

we have sevn tables in total and we're not going to make the next wait till the one before has sat, we're doing so it's litterally a steady line. we were at a wedding that did this and they had a lot of tables and they had a table up n the next one wasn't asked to go for theirs till the other had returned to their seats. took ages xx

Fork buffets can be just as nice, if not better than a sit down meal as guests are less restricted to what they can have....it can be a nightmare trying to find a starter, main and desert that most of your guests will also enjoy.

My friend ad a buffet and no seating plan they did the speeches before dessert I think and it worked really well xx

You can still have speeches without a seating plan and with a buffet. I'm sure once the speeches are announced (maybe before desert is available) everyone will pay attention and if they're helping themselves to more food they'll nip back to their seat xx

no top table goes first. our venue is bringing our meals (bride & groom) while the rest of the top table get their meals, then to table one and so on. i am actually thinking too that this is nicer with the guests getting a choice in what they can have. oh! i have just realised i haven't even done menu's for tables yet! better pull my finger out haha xx

We did our speeches in between our first and main courses, so you could have nibbles and drinks first, then the starter choices, speeches, cake cutting, then your Mains and desserts :-)

We are having a sit down meal for the guests who are coming to the ceremony, then having a buffet for the reception. x

My friend got married at 4pm. After the ceremony and drinks reception She did hot meat butties, there was tables to sit down at but no table plan. Very relaxed. Once everyone had ate they then did all the speeches. They had a buffet later on. Was a bit drunk by that point so i don't remember anything about the second lot of food. Whoops! x

Went to a wedding few yrs back and they had no table plan, so you could sit whereever and they had load of round tables and they had a hot buffet after ceremony. Can't remember what they had in evening though.
We are having a sit down meal and buffet in evening as venue requests it plus I think its traditional and its what I wanted.
