Ok so my mum has just told me my sister MIGHT not come to my wedding??????????????????????????

Let me start at the beginning, my son is getting christened next month on the 30th. It was supposed to be the 3rd but she turned round and said she booked an extra week for her holiday to cuba so wouldnt be back till the 5th. OK! I booked 4 months in advance so changed it to the 30th, no problem was annoyed but she's family so HAS to be there i WANT her to be there.

Anyway we got engaged in december decided the date in Jan so told sisters and mums but told them we would sent save the dates just so they dont forget, fair enough.
So she got the save the date this morning and is now moaning at my MUM not me that its a friday! So she cant possiably take the time off work and what about Shannon (my neice) she'll be 16 (the day before) so she'll have exams!
They cant come that day so i'll have to change the date????????????? WTF NO!!!!! END OF.

For a start im not getting married till 29th april 2011 so PLENTY of time to book off work and as for my neice ok i get the exams but im not getting married till 4 surely she wont have an exam then?? and in April??
I was thinking of having her as a bm (of which my sister said she'll pay for everything, so she can be nice lol) but if she has an exam i'll have to think of something else for her to do. But telling my mum to tell me to change the date? HOW DARE SHE!
My mum bless her told her not to be so blood y selfish lol and if shannon does have an exam that day we'll work around it lol. Im just so annoyed she went to my mum instead of me in the first place.
    Grrrrr

yeah i def don't think there's exams in April hun! There wasn't when i was at school anyway. Maybe mock ones but they dont mean anything, and to be honest if i was your neice i would be glad to miss one! It sounds like no matter what you do its not going to please your sister. Its good that your mum told her to stop being so selfish! xx

She might have modular exams? I can see that the exams are important, but not being able to get a day off a year in advance is a very lame argument!

You stick to your date! As for the exams it is VERY unlikely your neice will have an exam in April. Most are in June but sometimes end of May and beginning of July are involved.

Thanks ladies was feeling like poo as really want my niece as bm(both my other neices will be as well, so dont want to leave her out) but if she does has an exam im sure i can work around it somehow. Just really annoyed that she went to mum and told her to tell me to change the date. Changed the christening for her, no way am i changing my wedding for her as well. If she decides not to come as she cant miss ONE day of work..........well that will be her loss and she'll miss a great day.

Do not change your date for her she is being really selfish!! I don't see the big deal with getting married on a Friday like you my venue was booked for the saturday so I chose the Friday I mean it's only one day holiday from work she would have to take it's not like your asking her to take the full week off. I think thats a bit shady going to your mum she should have the decency to speak to you about it instead of putting your mum in the middle!! xxx

I have just checked every subject for every exam board (not as slow as it sounds) there are GCSE exams planned for march, may, june and july NOT april. But if she is doing early A levels I haven't checked them (am happy to) but it would surprise me if there were any exams in april.

So I say let your sister get on with it, like you said her loss if she decides not to come but she will probably come to her senses about it.

Hey hun, that's ridiculous that you should be expected to change your wedding date for your sister - over a year should be plenty of notice!!

Just for info, GCSE mock exams can often be in March or April but not at 4pm and I'm sure she could probably sit a mock exam on a different day anyway! x

I work in a high school and have never heard of exams in April. GCSE's are usually started in May and run to the end of June. Most schools do the mocks anywhere between November and March so that they can get the results back and that they know at what level to put the students in for their GCSE's. Your sister needs to get her priorities right - surely family comes before work.

Sooooooooooooo ok ..it is ok for her to book an extra weeks holiday in Cuba (I am making an assumption she MUST have needed to book time off AND your niece would have gone along?) BUT not for you to have your wedding on a Friday?

Me thinks Princess sister needs folk to stand up to her and STOP using others to relay messages etc...1 day's A/L is niether here nor there on the scheme of things...exams ARE very important BUT I do not recall exams in April.

Call her bluff and say 'ok...sorry you can't come'.

Don't change the date just for your sisters satisfaction hun, whats to say she wont change her mind AGAIN if you did move the date?? She sounds like she's being extremly selfish. She also shouldn't be trying to get between you and your mum by relaying messages through her (your mum)thats really unfair! Like many of the other ladies have said, there are no exams in april.
I hope you get things sorted hun i really do!..... Don't let your sister ruin your big day!! xxx

As for my niece ive phoned her and asked her to see if she can find out if they have an exam that day next year for me as REALLY want her as bm. Shes not at school for the next 3 weeks tho as will be in cuba as of monday. Was going to phone my sister but would end up giving her a mouthful so left it. Me and my niece will sort it and if she cant book work off.......... well i guess she's not coming then, so tough.

Ive got my yr11 timetable in front of me now for this year but they are always relatively the same every year! She will only be revising during those weeks so can have half a day off or whatever for a special occasion. Your sister is being selfish Hails. shes putting up unecessary barriers!

Absolutely ridiculous. You would have thought that if your niece has an exam the day before your wedding, then your wedding would be a great way to wind down and forget about the stress of the day before.

Tell her if she can't come then tough - you're not changing it... bloody selfish that is.

Hi, I think your sister is looking for things to pick at! It seems she doesnt feel involved unless something is done specifically for her! I only left school 5 years ago and my 2 cousins are 16 and their exams and my exams were in May, not April. You neice may at most need to leave earlier than usual, but by that point, if she isnt ready for her exams, she will never be ready and half a day off school wont change that.
Stick to your date, youve already changed one date for her.

    lol yep she does.

Just an update ive been on the phone to her this morning and told her ive asked shannon to check about exams for next year but being april and near to easter i thought it unlikely that she would have any. BEFORE i could say IF she has i'll work round it, she bit my head off and said how dare i go to her daughter not her????????????????????????????? Ok i kept calm (just) and said proberly the same way she could dare go to mum and get her to tell me to change my wedding day thats how i dare and if she didnt see a problem with my older sister going to my mother to change something so important as my wedding day then i dared to go to my niece over something as little as to find out info for exams. (she said nothing to this)
I then turned round to her and said my wedding would not be moving dates and a year is plenty of time for her to get the day off work after all she kinda works from home anyway so that was no problem and if she didnt then i would know that she didnt really want to come and if that was the case i didnt want her there...................then i hung up lol

My wedding is on a friday too - so everyone is having to take time off work! You have given them loads of notice I have only let everyone know just over 6 months in advance - invitations have gone out last week - wedding in October. I cannot believe your sister is saying this! I bet your neice will want to be there and be a BM. My best friends two daughters are being my BM's and she has just said they will have to have the day off school! (They may be sick that day!)
You have given her loads of time to plan I am sure that she can sort things out! Good Luck!

ooooohhhhh my sis would be in her grave by now :)

my best friend is going to be a bm and is moving to america in a few months. i'm not worried, we can sort out her dress around that, or she can have it made over there if i have to send her the fabric so she matches i will do! she may miss out on some of the fussing, but being a bm is as labour intensive as you want it to be, like you said the chances of having an exam at 4pm on a friday in April is slim to none, but she could still be a bm and work around it - might mean she has to start studying a bit early or miss out on some of the bits and pieces but it can be done :)
if she is willing and you want her, between you you can work it out.

but yeah, your sister. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr good on you for setting her straight though :) x x x

I'm not 100% sure but I think you can get special permission to have the exam taken another day if something is happening outside of school that cannot be rescheduled. Seeing as she will be bridesmaid, she does have an important part in your wedding. A colleague of mine got her exam rescheduled as she had Jury Service... but that wasn't GCSE's and it was a few years ago. Worth looking into though...
