does anyone know if you have to have the sixpence given to you for your shoe for the tradition or can you get your own
CommentAuthorStevie_Dee
Not sure who is meant to buy it, according to tradition your father is meant to be the one to place it in your shoe. My dad is no longer here so my son is doing that part. Although the sixpence did belong to my dad. I have bought sexpences for my bridesmaids too as a little something extra with a poem I wrote to go with their thank you gift. I thought it would be nice to give them a sixpence with the year of their fathers birth on (as its in the time frame of sixpences). xx

Im not entirely sure but i know that you can get them in the craft of hobby... it has the little saying on the back. Doesnt say anything about it being given to you or you getting it yourself!

I cheekily asked for one from h2b's grandfather. But I'm sure people get them themselves as well x

Chances of any of my family having one are slim. Think H2B is going to buy me one unless his mum has one

it was seeing them on ebay, that made me think of it and i suspect it would only be in my shoe for the ceremony. think will go ahead and order myself one, i can pass it on to my daughter and grand daughter then.

There are lots of places on the net that you can get a sixpence:-
I think the rhyme is something like:- "Something old, Something new, Something borrowed, Something blue and a silver Sixpence for her shoe."
Not sure someone has to give you the sixpence, but you can always ask someone to buy one for you!!
My friend wanted something more up to date and found this place that did wedding sixpences.

Do u think I Cud stick it to the bottom of my shoe? I have no room in my shoe for a coin, I'm having to stretch my shoes as it is (they r my size, just bit tight)
