I wanted them to fit into a standard DL envelope. So that's where I started. DL is 11cm high so widest part of the invite is 10.7cm. Need some wiggle room. This will be where the main invite is. Then for the pocket to fit nicely inside the main invite part, that will need to be 10.3cm. An A4 sheet is 29.7cm so the front closure flap will be 8.7cm
For the pocket, I used a sample of a folder I am arranging for work. On an oversized A4 folder (30.4cm high), pocket is 13cm from base. ratio = 0.4276. A4 is 21cm wide so using ration, height of pocket is 8.98cm...9cm for ease. will need a flap on 3 sides 0.5-1cm wide to stick it down the depending on how many inserts you have would need a bit of depth of the pocket.
(Made that sound simple but took me and OH a while!!)
What I meant by masking tape. is you put tape where the card would sit. Then at the point of scores you put another piece of tape. So you would line the card up to the first tape points, then score along the second tape points. that way you don't need to measure and mark each sheet.
not sure if any of that makes sense. xx

I have no idea what a standard DL envelope is haha!!
I bought a invite that I loved and i'll be using that as the template so hopefully I wont get too lost lol!! Their square signiture pocket folds with the envelope measuring 15cm. the invite iself is 13.5 so have some wiggle room in there thank god!
Whats the best thing to use to score them - so it will bend nicely? I understand what you mean about the masking tape and I was going to use slim double sided sticky tape to secure the flaps that make the pocket at the end.
does that make any sense? lol xx

A standard DL envelope is the one that business use. The long rectangle ones. I looked on the bay and can get nice ones for cheap so thought its a good base.
A metal ball scorer to score them and a bone folder to make the crease nice.
Id try a tape role. is what you are saying, slim double sided tape but is easier to use. don't need to measure it and peel the back off. but yes, that would work great

Think I might bite the bullet and order both. Sample of the plain is 99p but the pearlescent is a pack of 25 sheets for £8

I have done my frames for the table plan and the table name frames could I ask that you lovely ladies look in my photoalbum (decorations) and tell me your honest opinions please x
CommentAuthorEmily17
I'm going for 240gsm for the main red card and 160gsm for my ivory to stick on top if that helps x

Thanks Hun does help :) I was thinking 240/250 for the pocketfold and the inserts 180/200 as they come out so wNt them to feel like card and not paper. But not sure as haven't felt them! And don't no if to go for white or ivory as the lace needs to match the card colour!
CommentAuthorEmily17
I love your table names by the way. I did go and see them after your other thread but couldn't comment because it was closed. Is it love in different languages? Such a lovely different idea!
It really does depend. I'm not keen on plain white card so went for ivory but is completely up to you. like you say it depends on your lace too so maybe that's where you should start

Thanks Hun :) yer it's love it different languages as didn't want people getting funny about being on higher numbers than others ect and thought something different. I think I will start with lace as that will be tricky to get. Plus I need to see what navy blue looks like with white verse Ivory. Guess I need to order samples and go from there x

The table name ones are from £land but the table plan ones are form various places mainly second hand shops but one from m@t@1@n and one from the r@ng3. I or should I say oh haha sprayed them with primer as some were plastic then I coated with stain twice then dry painted brown on them x

We're also tying keys to the invitations, keys and locks for favour sweetie jars and doing a "find the key to your seat" as the seating plan. All the table numbers will have a lock as if they are opening the lock to the table! I'm sure people will notice but they may not understand the reason lol, will probably just wonder what the obsession with locks and keys is haha xx

HI thanks for the re-direction GF.
Emily, so glad someone else is doing DIY decorations. I'm wondering if it's a lot of effort for not much money saving, I am looking around and all the little things add up.
My church is very bare and would need some nice touches to make it feel romantic so I need loads of candles and lanterns with an aisle runner.
My reception however is very homely and rustic and not fit for chair covers etc, so just centrepieces and wee touches like a mailbox (which I have bought) and guest book table etc.
Do you think it's worth my while doing all the DIY or should I just get some help??
CommentAuthorEmily17
All of our stationary is coming to £60 for all STDs, invites, table plan, table numbers, place cards, childrens activity packs. Compare that to minimum £2 for the style invite we want - 50 invites = £100 excluding everything else
Our favours are approx. £15 for 70 people because I was given the boxes so just need decorations
Table centrepieces I have done a quick total of approx. £15 each for what I was initially thinking which to hire would be about the same but you would need to pay someone to set up. My thinking was that I can then sell them on after to regain some of the money. Now changed my mind on what I want (not sure what too but don't like my initial idea anymore) but still will be DIYing
For me the price difference is well worth it
Candles and lanterns - look at £ shops can sell them bulk after Reception how about bunting. Easily made with either paper or material depending which you fancied (I prefer material personally) centre pieces depends what you are after but shops like the R@nge and H0m3 B@rg@ins are a great help
If that's all you need, Centre pieces and lanterns I don't think its worth paying someone. Just find someone in your family/the church to put them out and pack them up before and after the wedding. Table plans either venue to set up or family member morning of.

We aren't doing much DIY in the sense that we're actually making the majority of things, but we are buying all decorations ourselves. We are DIY'ing our invitations but all decorations have been/will be sourced by us and arranged by us. I'd rather do it that way as for me it adds a more personal touch and it means there is more planning to get involved in, rather than handing the job over to someone else. It can be done cheaply if you snap up bargains and look in the right places.
We are however also lucky that our venue will set everything up for us so we don't have to worry about doing that ourselves.

Thought I would share this, been browsing for gifts and come across some hear chalk boards with string to hang up, thought someone might be interested in them for part of their DIY decor for their wedding. They are on Th3 W0rk$, you can get them single, packs of 11 (1 of them free) or 24. Not too bad priced either.

Hi, I absolutely love this thread. Its the only thread that I have read through from the very beginning!!
I am going to (attempt) to make table decorations, wine glass charms, my daughters flower girl dress, and my bouquet/button holes. I'm not having a traditional bouquet so what I am hoping to have would need to be made with artificial flowers.
I just cannot wait!!!!!!

Sounds like you have a good few things to do Isla? I would recommend starting soon as you can :) I started my flowergirl dresses months ago and found I did few bits then left them for few weeks then went back. Finally decided I needed to finish them off now ( except the hemming) so have one more bow to attach and mine are done :) x

MrsC2bee, i know time will fly by!! I have started the wine glass charms, but now I have seen some chair decorations which I love the look of, that I know i can make for less than the hire charge..... i think!! My mum and I went shopping a few days ago and found a pattern that we liked for the dress. Mum is going to make it up in different fabric to see how it looks and to have a practice run before using the real fabric. How exciting!!!
will you post a picture of the flower girl dresses?
thanks for the article emily, I will have read shortly!!

When I did a practice run of the flowergirl dress I used an old duvet cover as it was super king I was able to take bits off it for lots of trial projects lol, I have completed the dresses and put a photo of my flowergirls and bridesmaid in my albums ( I ordered the navy blue one as didn't want to attempt it lol) I've also done my day invites if people could have a look and say what you think :) can't believe how long they took and competed 22 still got 18 to complete but waiting on more cArd x
