Hi everyone. I'm fairly new to UK Bride and would like to say hi. :) I was proposed to at the end of October 2012 and am not sure whether to have an engagement party or not. I was wondering if other brides to be have had one and if so where did you have it and how long after the engagement is it acceptable to have one? Many thanks in advance.

Hi mrsheavey2b.
I think most people I have spoken to have had their engagement party about 2 months after they got engaged. For us that would be around New Years Eve. Maybe we should have a joint new years eve / engagement party?
What a shame that the local function hall you used has now been knocked down.
We've only been engaged a few weeks, but he did propose on our 10 year anniversary! Lol.
Thanks lizzylou. I was thinking about having a summer party but most people say that's a bit late. : )

It's never too late to celebrate your togetherness :D I was hoping for a party, but our families being spread over 2 countries we ended up clubbing with friends instead lol
We have been engaged for over a year now and I'm just planning my for next year. It's never to late to have one. It's never to late to do anything I always say.

i like the new year /engagement party thought
but a summer one would b nice as well so its really when ever you wont it x

The only problem I can see with it been a new year /engagement party is peppoe might only see it as a new year party. If you wanted to do a new year engagement party I would make that the theme of the engagement party rather than have them as one joint do. If that makes sense.

Also if you have the summer one it will give you more time to save money and plan it.

We booked a room belonging to a restaurant, the upstairs, that could fit 120ppl in and had a tapas buffet... The first price we were quoted for this was £980 with a DJ/disco..which was £185,.... Welcome and Congratulations!
My h2b and I got engaged on New Years Eve 2010 and didnt have our engagement party until the end of April so that was nearly 5 months later! We had it in a room in our local social club which was free (h2b's dad just had to pay £20 to register with them!) and then we did our own buffet and decoration and a friend who is a DJ did it for us for £50. I think the whole thing came to just under £150 so they dont have to cost the earth if you dont want them too! And I think a summer party would be lovely! Our friends had one during the summer with a bbq! xxx

We had one, but really it was a chance to have a general pee up. Was nothing special, just a shin dig in the garden.

Congratulations. We had an engagement BBQ, but only because we already had a big BBQ arranged and just changed the name of it one he had proposed.

We had one about 8 weeks after we got engaged. Wasn't going to have one at the beginning but everyone kept asking were we having one. Only had it at the house, but loads of food and lots of drink. It was a good day x x

We're not having an engagement party for several reasons but the main one is our families are scattered all over the place, I have my parents and brothers back in Ireland, one brother in Australia and H2B's side there are some in different parts of Englanc and some live way up in Scotland so we didnt even think about having a party as its just too much hassle, plus shortly after we got engaged we found out I was pregnant so we might just have a wee party celebrating the birth of the baby instead or for it's christening or something :-) If I was you I would wait till after New Year then throw a party if you are having one. Remember people already have made other plans for this time of year and your turn out may not be as big as you expect :-) By the way I think my brother was engaged about 6 months when they decided to have a party :-)

Hey welcome to ukbride!!
We had one 4 months after we got engaged.
We hired the top floor of our local nightclub only because it had everything we needed and at a cheaper price then hiring somewhere and booking a disco.
We had around 100 guests and they provided a buffet - which suprised me it was really nice and looked really posh they way they had displayed it all. we put up loads of balloons, streams and banners.
