I don't think it needs to match the room, unless for some reason its not neutral colours, but most venue stick pretty neutral i think xx

No I don't think so, my colour is royal blue and ivory and my venue has a horrible red patterned carpet.. I'm not worried tho. X

No, if you match your colours to the decor it draws attention to it, whereas if you have different colours it draws you eye from the decor. X

    Hi welcome btw :D

Nope they don't have to match, i agree with the other ladies, sometimes matching can draw attention to the wrong parts!!
Our venue, well ceremony and breakfast room is all white like conservatory style walls, but has a weird coloured curtain/carpet probably similar reddy/brown to most venues!! Our colours are silver and turquoise... you also need to remember, most of the floor will be covered up with chairs/tables/people so will only really see specks of the original colours, therefore your colour scheme will stand out way more!

    xx

yeah that was my worry, the carpet is green which im fine with as like you say ots covered, but though id not noticed the 2 times ive been to my venue the curtains are red and green stripe! they are vile, im telling my photographer to keep well clear of me near them!

my theme is vintage buttons and lace with either grey or taupe for the colour. havent quite decided as taupe seems to be a nightmare to colour match.

thanks for the replies everyone :D

well grey is quite a 'neutral' against green and red to be honest... but don't worry the photographer will focus on your colours and emphasise those.
I hadn't really thought about it until writing my previous reply...but depending the room, majority of floor will be covered by chairs and tables, both of which will no doubt be covered in white with your colour sashes so that draws your eye and attention into your decorations rather than the curtains. and then with table decorations/table centrepieces.. you look at any photos and you do usually find red and cream and greens as venue choices... no idea why! but im sure you will be fine!!

ive emailed the venue too because they mentioned that the hotel has been getting some decorating done, so its kind of fingers crossed, but i very much doubt it.

my centre pieces will be quite tall too so it will draw the eye to them, and there is 6 pillars along the room so the windows are kind of out of sight but bring enough light in. x x

ah yeh i get you. ours overlooks the golf course, has 3 or 4 pillars and pretty much floor to ceiling curtains but im sure you get distracted by everything else to be perfectly honest!! you'll be the centre of attention anyway hun, and as long as your dress doesn't match the curtains you will be fine! xx

I think if venues are going I hold weddings they need to decorate it fairly neutral. As I said, I was lucky as it went into our colour scheme but would not for others.

Our venue had historical decoration, but it was a nightmare. The ceremony room was pale pink/light blue/light grey and the reception rrom was green/yellow. We decided to completly ignore the decor and go for purple/lilac/silver so we connected the rooms that way. We had massive floor to ceiling supporting pillars in the reception room which we wrapped in lilac organza ... I had rolls and rolls of the stuff which we wrapped around everywhere inside and out!

    That's gorgeous kelbel.

Ours is quite neutrally decorated, with cream walls and furnished in a pale sort of olive green which is quite nice. We are having green and silver as our colours so it will work well I think.

To be honest, we did pick the colours as they would look nice in the venue, but then again we weren't to fussed about the colour scheme to start with.

I don't understand why hotels insist on getting such hideous carpets though!!!
