Has any of you bought a wedding cake from a top end supermarket rather than a cake baker? I'm looking to use it as a desert so would need a 4 tier one which I've been looking at bakers local to me and cost a fortune! Wondered if anyone had bought a shop one and what it was like? I'm not overly fussed what it looks like as I'd probably decorate it myself, but am on a tight budget . X

A friend of mine had W-Rose Cup Cakes at her wedding. they were amazing!!! So if the tiered cake are made from the same sponge I don't think you would have any problems there! They were so light and fluffy!

We are making our own, but then we do that for people anyway (Dave is a chef and I do cakes as a hobby), but if we lived closer to shops like that, we would probably go for a light and fluffy sponge and just ice them! I think most of those kinds of cakes taste really good! Esp if they are fluffy, and served with a bit of sweet cream. Mmmmm I want a slice of cake now!!
We've ordered a three tier choc orange fudge which w@!tr@$e... Out friends had it at their wedding and it was lush... I have to admit I'm a food snob lol x

I'm asking one of my BMs to do most of ours (she just absolutely loves baking and usually takes freshly made cakes into work each day) and I'll at the very least offer to help, but not sure I'll be allowed to. My Mum is doing the top tier as she can't eat eggs so that one will be done to an egg-free recipe. All together it will be a 4 tier sponge (as Paul and I both hate fruit cake) with flowers to match the bouquets and centrepieces between each tier and on top. Have got some icing stencils to decorate each tier with and was thinking of having a little ribbon with a diamante buckle at the bottom of each tier. Now that I've written it down, it seems a little OTT but it looks really nice in my head... will decorate and then decide on the ribbon at the last minute I think.

I am lucky. My grandma is making our cake. I was at a wedding where they bought their cake from the green supermarket beginning with a. She ended up not cutting it that evening (very informal wedding). But when she tried it the next day, she said it was horrible and binned all 3 tiers. Now I dont know if she was being dramatic, hungover or if the cake had gone off from not being refrigerated for so long. You could buy the smallest just to try it, maybe.

LOL thank you Marrying.Ryan, "You could buy the smallest just to try it" is now my go-to line everytime I fancy a bit of cake (which is most of the time)... 'no, it's ok I HAVE TO have some cake to test it out before the wedding, honest!'

We were going to do our own with M4rks & $pencer cakes (especially as they have a video on their site on how to tier the cakes), but we found a shop that is fantastic, and have bought one instead
CommentAuthorMrsMaherToBe
Marrying Ryan I knew someone who cut into the cake and it was solid but they got it at the supermarket beginning with T. I wondered if you bought it from W-rose or M4rks wether it would be better quality/fresher. May have to keep looking. Got plenty of time :) x

I think places like m&&ks are better than a&&da and te@@co as they have a range specifically for the occasion I don't think a&&da or te&&co do.
CommentAuthorEmmaJ
We're thinking of getting a smaller cake to cut for the pictures and then getting some m&s 'cutting bars' for the venue to put out with the evening buffet, saves us some money and no one will notice the difference!!
