I've sent paperwork to the churcH I really really want to get married in and just had the price list back and am pretty surprised at it. It's more than I expected :(
    This is it:

    Basic Wedding Fees

    Marriage Service
    £500
    Calling of Banns
    £22
    Administration Fee
    £25
    Basic Wedding Sub-Total (‘summer’ weddings)
    £547
Heating Fee ( Winter Heating – 1st Oct to 30th April)
    £25
    Basic Wedding Sub-Total (‘winter’ weddings)
    £572

Additional Fees depending on what you request

Organist (Cheque made payable to the organist)
    £100
    Choir (When available)
    £80
    Video License
    £50
    Bells Meonstoke & Corhampton
    £25
    Bells Droxford
    £180
    Flower Arrangements Oversight Fee.
This is in addition to the cost of flowers.
    £60

Other Fees which may be payable

Calling of Banns at other parishes
    £22
Banns Certificate when issued by another Parish
    £12

Plus says we have to pay full organist fee even if we use someone else so that would be pointless. Plus the flower arrangement they set out is confusing too :( any help and advice please x

Thats quite normal honey.... mine will be about £750 all in all. The church needs the money to keep it going and they heavily relay on weddings to support this as people dont donate or go to church as often as they used too xxx

I decided not to go for a church wedding, im not religious and dont always always agree with people getting married in a church just for cosmetic reasons but the prices are deffinetly something to be a bit shocked by aswell lol Im just getting married in a registry office- admittedly I wasnt keen on the idea at the beginning once my h2b popped the question but having looked around and having come down to earth with our budget decided it was most sensible, and it would not make a difference to me and my h2b getting married. Luckily the local registry office in Northampton is very grand looking and look more like a cathedral on the outside which is odd, so its still going to look fab in the pics anyway :)

Its £225 for us to get married in registry office and then you just pay £75 for notice of marriage, think it varies in different locations though

Deffinetly Nina! lol I wanted to have the ceremony and reception all in 1 place but changed my mind when it would cost about 600 quid just to have the registrar nip down the road... its madness! I tell a lie...it was £215 for ceremony fee and then you have to submit a notice of marraige which is £35 each I believe xxx

Maybe speak to the vicar about the video license and flowers and see what they cover.... we had our own florist to do the flowers but church said no as they only like their own florist being used which is fair enough as they know the church, what looks nice and have keys, etc. But if you use your own organist i think its slightly rude as doing someone out of their job in their church....

I wouldn't use different organist anyway. It thought bit cheeky asking for full amount, would have expected a percentage but not all of it. Just hope the organist is good lol. I want bells to kimi so was chuffed there only £25 as think they just add to it all. We have to pay £100 deposit and then the rest a month before so guna try and save that up and put to the side as soon as so I know it's sorted. And will speak to the, about the florist as want to know where we stand with all that x

Our church fees will be just over £750 and that is without bells or flowers! Just out of curiosity, did he give you these quotes based on the date you wish to marry or what it would cost you to marry now? Only wondering because in January 2013 they are going up so may be more expensive than what you have been quoted if it wasn't quoted for an exact date or year xxx

I was shocked at prices too! I was expecting about £200. But apparently there is or there will be a fixed charge for all churches soon coz some were just charging a donation fee and others were charging way too much, so they are making it the same for all not sure when this starts tho and I can't remember how much our vicar said that we be. I know we are looking at a minimum charge of £500 for ours, extra for organ and bells ect; x

MrsBayliss2B that is what I was talking about, and why it is going to be costing us just over £750 without extras, so anyone getting married in a CofE church after January 2013 will be looking at the same price. If we want organist, choir, flowers etc we are looking at around £900 all together xxx

It's not bad considering some venues charge the same or more to use one of their rooms & then you still have to pay the registrar. As for the organ fee, organs can be very expensive to maintain. The fee probably goes to maintenance, hence why it's charge no matter what. TBH as a musician I wouldn't expect to go and play someone else's instrument for free.

I did think about price of other venue be similar as like u say outta pay for room ect. So I know I just need to start getting the money then I'll be ok. Justed emailed them to see if prices will change am keeping fingers crossed that if I put deposit down now it will stay at those prices. Not sure if I can get a church to do an invoice up so prices have to stick lol x

We're having a civil ceremony in a town hall, as neither of us are religious (I'm atheist, OH is agnostic), and while my OH wouldn't care much either way, I could never get married in a church; getting married under the eyes of a god I don't believe in would cheapen our vows for me, and make them almost meaningless.

Ours is costing £700 for the hire of the room, then the registrar and marriage certificate (is that the name?!) will be an additional £400 ish, so £1100. We're then paying around £300 for a painist (though they'll be doing the drinks reception as well); so £1400 all in.

Personally I think churches have a cheek charging what they do, and it's another reason I'm not a fan of the Church.

Ours is 600 with Everything in,
but he said if we couldnt afford it we could arrange something, then went on to tell us its only that high because unfortunatly weddings are the only thing that keep the church open but hed knock it down if we couldnt afford it aslong as we got "married in the eyes of god"

Wow that is expensive. I'm getting married in a Catholic Church and we've just been told that we are just asked for a donation of whatever we can afford but as a guide it's usually around £100 suggested donation (H2B and I thought that is mean and will give more than that). Then £80 for the organist and not got flowers quote yet for the Church florist.

Depends whether you go to the actual registry office! Ours would be cheaper, however we are getting married in a hotel. So we need to pay 75 for giving notice and then roughly 450 for the registrar to come out.. plus the hotel room charges (thankfully we dont have to pay these as getting married on a sun so they chuck it in free :) )

I think its about average in fairness. Just have to save as much as you can if that's definitely what you want to do.. Theres so many ways to save on other aspects (d.i.y invites etc)..

Ours is £500 for the service, bans, organist etc and then £120 for the bells. We're having to pay another £35 for the bans to be called in the local church as where we are getting married is my childhood church and its on the other side of the town to where I live now. But for me a registery wedding was never an option, I love that church and have some good memories there and because of my faith, my oh isn't bothered but respects that it is soo important to me -that and I want the bells lol.
Its Christmas time so if I'm lucky it should be decorated anyway :D xx

The video license is normal as not everyone can just take a video and they can only video from
    Certain places within the church.

To be honest that's cheap I would love just to pay that we have to pay just over £1000.

    £70 to give notice
    £469 for the registrar
£400 to the venue for the room!! Plus VAT

    Total = £1019

The notice is so you can go to the registar and they can prove that you are who you are and that you both now who each other are and where you live, what you do for a living, date of birth etc.

We had to do this on Tuesday. This then stays up for 15 days. After 15 days this is when you will receive your marriage licence. You have to produce your marrage licence at least 1 day before you get married.

You can only do this a year in advance.

As far as I know it is just a standard fee of £70 for the both of you which is £35 each but we had to pay £40 upfront before we could even book. Then for the day its self its costing us £469 for the registar to come to us but i have heard from other ladies that it has cost more than what we are paying.

Also if your not getting married in a church and your getting married at a venue I would ask your venue if you have to pay another fee ontop of your room charge and if this includes VAT as we have already paid out £1200 including VAT for our room and they want another £400 + VAT just so we can get married.
