Sorry unsure of what category to put this under..

My sil2b got married on Friday and I got shellac nails for the occasion. It is done just like a normal varnish but the top coat is gel based and they dry under uv light. I wanted to test it out for my wedding because I have a habit of picking my nails varnish and smudging especially and I really didn't want to get acrylics for 1 day. I highly recommend shellac- no smudging as they are instantly dry, super shiny and smart, and they last for 2 weeks which is perfect for the wedding and honeymoon, thought I'd share incase anyone else was wonderig what to do with thee nails too xxx (they cost me 25.00)

I was just thinking about manicures there and whether or not I'd get one!

This sounds like a really good idea! I don't like the idea of acrylics or gel nails, I've seen a few of my friends nails get ruined after repeated use of these nails but if this is just like a normal varnish then it could be exactly what I'm looking for!

What kind of polish did you get? I'm swithering between a natural looking french manicure or making getting a nice teal or purple colour to liven things up a bit?

I got a french manicure but will probably go for a pearly pink for the big day- to remove them you have to soak them in 100% acetone remover or get it done professionally for about £5 which is what I'll do and my friends nails have all been fine after, also it's quite thick so nails won't break with it on either x

I had Shellac done a few weeks ago for my holiday to Australia and wanted to look my best since it was 6 months since id seen my other half (fiance as of last day of holiday ;-p )
They were peeling off by the 3rd day and totally off by the 5th so as it turns out my nails were horrid at the proposal

I do know a few people who swear by it though so id suggest like most things have a trial run with the Shellac so you are not disappointed and you arent one of the ones it doesnt work on - something to do with oils in your skin etc

I would definitely recommend it. My nails are not very strong and tend to break before they get to a reasonable length, but I had a shellac 3 weeks ago and my nails are now looking fab, even although I just have a normal clear polish on at the moment. My shellac lasted about 11 days before it started to chip slightly. I managed to take my shellac off by just soaking them in normal nail varnish remover. Look out for deals on websites as I got a manicure and pedicure, both with shellac for £19, normally £65!!!

Oooh, sounds like something I'll be looking at as I can easily grow my nails long, but feel like nailpolish always ends up slightly imperfect because of the long drying time and chipping! xx

Its good to read these posts as I booked an appointment yesterday for me and my mom to have the day before the wedding. They showed me dozens of lovely colours but prob go with french. The ladies in the salon said they were kinder to nails as I used to have infills and they wrecked my nails. The salon gives you a kit free to soak them off which I thought was good.
