I've been in contact with an old friend for a few weeks now, he is in a band and I was thinking about hiring him for my reception, only problem is I've only heard a medley of there songs from there website, I'm yet to see them live BUT if I want this band I have to book him literally now and get a deposit of 200 quid paid within 2 weeks as he can't provisionally have me booked in any longer. The gigs hes got coming up are sold out so I'm not sure when I will get to hear them play.. its alot of money to pay out when I haven't seen them play. What do you girls think, shall I just go with it or not?? Another problem is finding the money within the month, means I can't put a deposit down for honeymoon!

I thought you said that they would let you go to a rehearsal? When is the next one?

They have no where to rehearse at the moment "apparently" I'm not sure if hes just blagging me to get the deposit as soon as possible. His next gig is friday evening but the tickets are sold out?!

Could they not let you go backstage for half an hour? I would say if they are that desperate to get your money then they will find a way of compromising.

I will mention that to him, if he says no then I think I'm going to have to leave it. If they want my money they should atleast help me out a bit!! Its really frustrating

I am! But I really wanted this band. He wants 750 for 2x 2hour slots, inbetween slots he'll DJ and he has a lazor show and all sorts but I'm not just going to dish out money like that

If he is a friend then I'm sure that he can make some arrangements for you. Don't let them push you into anything though.

UPDATE... I've decided I'm not going to have a band, I'm just going to book a DJ and the money I would of used on a band I will put towards either candy floss machine or chocolate fountain or BOTH!! Alot of people have said they'd remember a chocolate fountain more than a band

I think DJs are better... and I used to be in a band that played at weddings!

Yeah, I'm just going to book a DJ which he quoted 180 quid for the whole evening and that includes a light and lazor display.. so compared to the 750 for the band its a huge difference! I don't want to waste money! xx

    don't bother booking it.

impuses are a bad thing. it's estate agents all over again "put the deposit down now to avoid missing out" and all that...

stick with the classic dj - they'll play music for everyones tastes

Yeah I was a bit shocked at the price but I was head set on having a band, thought it would be something a bit difference and everyone would enjoy but once I've thought about it properly its alot of money, I don't need a band and I don't think once everyone has a drink in them that they will be interested in whether its a band or DJ. If I had a band and a chocolate fountain I'm sure as hell more people would be interested in the chocolate than the band and the chocolate fountain is going to be about 300 quid, that with the dj Im looking at 480 pound.. still saving alot more!
