Wedding Forum - September Spanish Wedding...

Hoping I can get some advice here because i'm going mad and don't know what to do!! Wanted to know if anyone else is in a similar position and how they're feeling?

We're due to get married in Spain on 11th September and have yet to postpone. We are feeling relatively confident that quarantine will be cancelled by then but we need to confirm whether we want the wedding in September and take a gamble and are not sure what to do.

We have a provisional date of 26th July 2021 which just seems so long away, I'm not sure i will be bothered in a years time haha! However we have been contacted by our venue today to make a decision in 48 hrs and no one is really sure what to do. We have asked out friends and family what they think, some think we should just hold on and take a gamble and others think we should postpone. We're really torn. If we take a gamble and then have to postpone then we may not get married until 2022!

I am worried that if we decide to go ahead and quarantine is lifted that guests may not even want to come or may not want to book flights.

We don't have any guests in the shielding category and only a handful over the age of 70, however I know a lot of our guests will be bringing their in-laws over to look after the kids on the wedding day so that is a risk to factor in.

It is looking more and more likely that we will have to postpone but I can't help feeling that I might be sat at home on the day I was supposed to get married with quarantine lifted and both countries back to normal thinking I could have been in Spain right now with everything going to plan!!

We've all gone round in circles so I would really appreciate an outsiders perspective!!

Firstly, congratulations on your upcoming nuptials. However, I can really feel your frustration at this time, with all the uncertainty going on around COVID etc.

To be completely honest, I don't share your confidence that the wedding will go ahead as planned. The UK has just introduced a 14-day quarantine for people arriving into the country, and while Spain currently doesn't require visitors to quarantine, it does still have a three-stage health check on those arriving. Depending on how the situation goes in the UK, even if the wedding does go ahead, all your guests may be required to self-isolate for two weeks upon arrival back to the UK, which may screw up work lives, etc. You have to also take into account that even if people are free to travel, a lot of people may not want to.

It's a really tough one, because I'm sure you've been planning this for months (possibly years) and for the virus to get in the way is suuuuper frustrating.

The way I explained it to a friend of mine was as such: is it more important to you that you get married on that particular day, or is it more important that everyone you want to be there is guaranteed to be there? Figuring out the answer to that question may well help you to make a decision to go ahead or to postpone.

By the way, if the venue is any good, they should be offering free postponements.
