H2B and I ordered save the date cards last weekend as we wanted to get them out early so that people could actually save the date! They arrived yesterday and I started to address some of them, intending to send them to both day and evening guests but my sister said today that if she received a save the date card from someone else she would presume that she was attending the whole day, not just the evening.
What have the rest of you done? Have you sent them to everyone or just the day guests? I don't want evening guests to not be able to come becuase they didn't know in advance, but I also don't want people to think that they're invited all day and then find out a few months before that they're not! We're creating a wedding website and we've put the address on the save the date cards so we could just make it clear on there that due to space and budget not everyone will be attending the day time maybe?!
On a slightly different note, there is plenty of room in the church so everyone could come to the actual wedding if they wanted to. Do you think it is rude to invite people to the wedding (we may have some cake and drinks before moving onto the reception venue) and then only to the evening do? Especially if they're travelling to get there?
Very happy to say I'm now Mrs Keates and loving it!

We've written on the back of our std cards what they are invited to so either all day or church and evening function xxx

Ah thats a good idea. The back of our cards are black but I'm sure I could write on it in silver or gold pen!

I just sent my std's to all guests, if i got one I wouldn't assume i was invited to the actual wedding until i got an invite. As the save the date was just a pre warning really, we didn't think it was necessary to stipulate what part of the wedding they would be invited to, howeve we did address the std's to the actual people invited. Love the writing on the back idea though!

We had this problem. When we gave them out we said we hadn't finalised who was coming to what yet but still some ppl assumed that they were coming to the whole thing. In the end it was ok cos we ended up inviting some of the evening ppl to the day cos of numbers but it could have been awkward. To address your other point, we've been invited to three weddings over the last few years where we've been invited to the ceremony and the evening but not the wedding breakfast. It's definately becoming more popular esp as it's so expensive to feed ppl. However each time we've been a bit miffed as we travelled a long way to get there only to have to go and wait in our room while everyone else had the wedding meal!

I've just tried out writing a message on the back of mine, silver pen on black card, it looks really nice! Thanks for the idea!

I wondered about this too- we are ordering our Save the Dates next week and my Mum helped me out by saying that as people go away for Christmas then probably best to send to all in case they were planning on being away. So I would probably think it depends on the time of year.

Well mine is in July so people are also likely to be booking holidays, which means it is probably more important that I send them out to everyone.

we got told by our wedding planner to only send to the day guests as ppl will assume they have been invited to the ceremony too and this has resulted in lots of probs. If sending them to evening guests then make it clear what they are invited to in order to avoid any upset and embarassment
