I've decorated our wedding post box - it's one of those tall cardboard boxes with a cardboard lid. H2B has just seen it and asked "How will the contents be secure in that?"
Waaah - keeping it secure hadn't crossed my mind!
    Is he being paranoid?
I guess if there's cash in envelopes inside, anyone wanting to, could just lift the lid.
Anyone else had this dilema? How do you make a box like that secure?

You could use double sided sticky tape to secure the lid might mean the box gets destroyed at the end of the night when you open it though. Other option is to try to hire a wishing well or post box. many site have them for sale at good prices xx

That was something my mom asked me the other day! We are being given one as a present by my MOH's mom and I hadnt thought about the secure-ness (new word) of it!
Its also about making sure noones left alone with it, or making sure someone from the hotel keeps an eye out!

was going to put a thread up and ask but never got around to it, so hopefully other people on here who have had post box's will be able to give some answers!
    xx

I'm hiring a Royal Mail post box which has a key too it.
Make sure it's the room where everyone can see it, and like Lou said nominate someone to keep an eye on it :)

U definitely want a secure one, one of my best mates got married in June and they just had an open vintage suitcase that ppl laid the cards in... Well my card and vouchers went walkers (a dishonest friend of staff member at venue)... Didn't find out for months til I got talking to her and asked what she's spent the vouchers on... She thought I hadn't given them anything, I was mortified, and couldn't get replacements either! Xx

You also need to check your wedding insurance to see what they ask for security-wise in case of a claim.

i have made a post box and added a padlock to it. there is a wedding veil company in the uk (hint) that you can buy a wishing well for £12.99 that looks secure. i have just ordered my veil from there, made to order and colour matched for only £28.25 inc p&p. & they say they can get colour matched ties too lol. but yeh padlocks, hire or buy that can be secured. otherwise i would suggest putting a brick inside then sealing the lid with glue or tape then that way no one can walk out with it without being noticed.

You could tie ribbons around it and superglue the knots.. Be hard for someone to get into it quickly without anyone noticing.. Also keep it in the busiest room as others have said xxx

Thank you all for replies. I could get a completely different box but I really like the one I've made..
Yes sticking/glueing the lid is a great idea - then someone can only take it if they actually walk out with the whole box. It isnt something I will keep after anyway and it's presonalised so cant really sell it either.

I had planned to have it at the entrance with guest book etc - think I will rethink that now and have it at the back of the room - close to my mum or something

We're going to superglue ours shut! Our cardboard weding card box was only a fiver and as nice as it is we won't be wanting to keep it after if we have photos of it on the display table so doesn't matter if we destroy it after.

At the last wedding I went to a moh (brides sister) emptied the post box periodically throughout the night and deposited the cards in the honeymoon suite each time.

we didn't have any trouble with ours as we put it right next to the guest book and sweet buffet table so it always had someone round it. I haven't heard of anyone taking it before i came on here. I Would consider tying a HUGE ribbon round the lid and the bottom and supergluing it shut as well then only you and hubby can get in to it, i think people would notice if it went walkies.

also asign someone to look after it
