After we got engaged I started a secret wedding pot. Not because I don't trust him but as a little surprise. Plus it means I can get things like my shoes n little bits when I need to. Was just wondering if anyone else has one? I haven't got a lot but its slowly growing. If anyone's trying to save its a great idea, as even if its like mine and a little bit still help x

We have a silvers and pounds pot, a 1's and 2's pot and a 5p bottle :-) Haven't counted it recently but last year in September ish we had £72 in there, it slowly got there in just over a year I reckon ! So 2 more years left, being a little more generous in putting stuff in and we should have enough to pay for a little something ! Or even to go toward our honeymoon spends.. xxx

We have a similar pot but its sealed so cant get in it.... however if we are going out on a nightout and say withdraw £50 if i dont spend it all then the change goes in the pot even if its a note as i had planned to spend the money so our pot is growing well. xx
Finally marrying the love of my life !!

Millz - H2B sealed the pots up with sticky tape and drew lines all round it so he could tell if I'd opened them !!! But he let me count them that one time but now it's all sealed up again haha ! Thats a good idea about the spare money from nights out though ! xxx

H2B and I have one, its the money for the park tickets for our Florida honeymoon. Each day we put a pound in each and then any other spare change and then count it at the end of each month. It's fun to see how much we have saved each month and see if we have reached the little monthly target we set. We have being doing it since December and have just over £320.00 so its going well. Need £800 for park tickets thou so gotta keep going :) x
I'm thinking mine will go towards honeymoon but proberly pick at it for all the little bits like I did for my shoes n stuff like that. I try and put change ect in it but then I moan when I have no money for parking lol x

I've opted for a savings account, with a standing order set up so that on payday each month money is automatically transferred. I can get it online if I need it, but it takes a day to cone through, so I can't get it for something I just decide I feel like. I only transfer money back if I'm running out before payday. I think I've got enough now to cover the material for my dress.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

We're doing this for this past 14 months and have saved over 2200. We would put all our change in at the end of the night and like millz, we also put notes in if we intended to spend them but didn't. It's a great way to save cos you don't really miss it.
We count it every 3 months or so and pop it in our savings account. We'd be in a terrible position financially without it now

Good idea. Think I will get one of those ones you need to smash to get the money out. And try and put £1 a day in. Im also doing hairdressing at college and occasionally get tips so will put them in as well and will get oh to do the same. Xx

I was thinking of doing an account n standing order but want to wait til money settles with all our changes before I do it. So far I have about 200 saved up so not alot but did have to take 100 out pLus 40 for shoes so not too bad I suppose x

I was given a wedding fund pot that you have to smash to get the cash out of as an engagement gift. We have had it a month now and have been given some cash as engagement gifts probably about £130 and i reckont there has been another £100 or mor put in it. I put in any spare change I have and occasionally as I work in the bookies I get a wee tip and then I put them in too. I reckon I might be able to squirrell away a small fortune to pay for the last minute things for the wedding in 2 or 3 years xx

H2b did all the wedding saving, I just transfered money into his account each month and he put it into the savings. Then if I needed to pay for something he transferred it back or gave me his credit card. I've bought lots as I've gone along too.
The only thing I 'saved' for was the make-up artist on the day. I'm qualified in wedding make-up, so it felt like a luxury paying somebody else to do it, so I wanted to justify it to myself. Anyway, I bought a savings tin and every time somebody tipped me for threading I'd put the money in my tin. In 10 months I put in £113 in tips - just £7 short of the make-up artist money!! I didn't do anything other than my job for this, so I didn't miss it.

I got one of the breakable wedding pots too, they are very useful knowing. Have to break it to get the money out, ours has the money from our engagement plus any change I have in it too... Will be a nice surprise when it's full and can check it open, will get another one if there's a bit in there x

the money pot is a good idea think will do that as we are saving anyway but a money pot for all the change is a good idea. We refuse to get a loan for our wedding so everything will be paid in cash as we save it its why our wedding is in 3 years time. but then can be proud that we paid for it all and not have to pay back any loans.

Yeah, we've been saving too. Extra money just adding up from change we don't use and I'm a massive bargsin hunter...I got my shoes for £20! I absolutely love them and my dress only cost £140 custom made so thats helped towards everything else. We just save in a jar as well and take it down the bank when its full and pour it in. x

I think the trick to the savings pot is to put some of the change in your purse into it every week, even if it is only the odd 50p or £1 it will all add up over the year. I tend to see whats in my purse and all my copper and 5p's, 10p's and 20p's go in to a jar I can open (that's H"B's bus fair fund lol). If I have a few 50p's £1's and sometimes notes they go into the samsh it to get it jar so that it is safe from being dipped into. Honsetly ladies don't commit to putting away a certain amount every week or month to this pot just pop the odd coins in and it will grow without you realising it xx

I was going to get a breakable one but thought its £8 I could be putting in my pot instead. I agree with Cathryn don't be set on the amount ur put in coz I started that n then u forget or don't have the money n feel bad and end up going ages without putting money is as think I'll wait til I have that set amount. I just put any in I can afford and if my accounts up I pop 10-20 in. X
