    Hi Everyone,

H2b and co. are all hiring their suits from the bridal shop i got my dress from. The hire company unfortunately didnt have a colour even close to the colour i wanted but i had extra material from bridesmaid dresses so the said that one of their seamstresses would do it. I never asked for a quote (how stupid am i!!) and i phoned yesterday and the cravats are ready, she wants £220 for them. I know very little about how much it costs to get things made but that seems extortionate to me?!?!

    She has made:

    6 x Adult Cravats
    3 x Ties
    2 x Childrens cravats

It's a week until the wedding so i cant very well say im not paying it because the men will then have no cravats. I feel like im being taken advantage of because i need them. She didnt even buy the material either!

Everything was going so well then this has just put a dampner on everything. Me & H2B had a massive row about it and im feelign stressed :(

wow, how much?! Thats taking the piss surely!

What colour do you need? There are loads out there you can buy in the shops or online that don't cost that much that you can get in time.

I've just done a quick search and it seems men's ties are about £7, mens cravats are about £8 and children's cravats are about £9. So your streamstress chargning £20 an item is a bit steep, especially as you say, the material was provided!

i would get another quote from another seamstress for hand made cravats and show that to her and let her know your not happy as you provided the material all she has done is sew them together, £20 each is ridiculous!!!!!

Thats too much they are only about £10 each to buy. However if you didnt ask the price I think you are going to struggle to change that. I would tell her thats too much and offer around £150 (which I still think is expensive, but wouls be a good will gesture).

Ok so basically she is charging you £220 for her time to make them, which would have only took about 4 hours most! That is rediculous hun, but unfortunately as you never asked for a quote I dont really think you have a foot to stand on here :( xx

i hate to say it but im a fashion and textile graduate, it sounds about right, are they lined and fully interfaced (strengthend inside with like a white felty fabric?) it would have taken her probably about 1 - 2 hours each approx depending on her machine and experience, and as an average shes charged £20 per tie/cravat, thats for her time, electric, thread, interfacing (which she should have used) and to press them. its surprising how much it all adds up, she would probably have charged you minimum wage for her hours for this (which is VERY uncommon, i was told that as a seamstress, you should charge around £12-15 an hour!!!! i know!) sorry if this doesnt help you hun but just thought id give u my opinion xxx

Thats insane! I paid £3.99 on ebay for one with free delivery, and its perfect! But like someone else said, you should have asked for a quote first and I think you will struggle to get out of it :(

I'd just point blank refuse to pay, and get onto ebay and order them from there. Mine can in less than 2 days after I paid :)
