Me and my H2B were discussing last night our table plan and whether we really need one? I have never been to a wedding that hasn't had one but at the same time I don't really think it's relevant for our wedding. The tables at the venue are quite small and can fit about 6 max to a table as they are round, and I have a couple of people in my family, mainly my auntie and younger sister, who don't get on. I am having a hogroast so everyone will be getting up to get their food anyway and I would rather sit with who i wanted rather than to be told where to sit. I would still be keeping the top table as tradition, but if I got rid of the table plan what would I do for guests to know they can sit where they like? Advice please

I didn't want a table plan either, I didn't really think it was necessary for such a small do. We're also not having a sit down meal, just tea and scones, then a buffet type thing in the evening. However, Dan said that we have to, he thinks that people are so used to it that it'll cause too much confusion not to have one.

When my friend got married, she didn't have a table plan. I don't remember anyone telling us to sit anywhere, we just did! She had a buffet so everyone was getting up and down and as the food was in a separate room, people got talking as they queued up and by the end of the night everyone was chatting and dancing with each other, which was nice.

We're going with a semi-table plan I think. I didn't really want the headache of trying to work out where to seat people and with who, so have decided that we'll split the tables 50-50, assign each side of the family with a colour or something and then each table place is given one colour or the other and then people can sit with who they want, but they still have to mingle with others. We're having a buffet too so people will be getting up and down to get their food, so didn't see the point in assigning people with a strict table plan.

We're thinking about having half a table plan! You look confused...i'll explain lol

Basically you have the big one that people see when they walk in so thats gunna be the table plan persay - but all we're gunna do for each table is put a list of names to each table (on the table plan) n then we've got family and bridal party at front tables, then friends etc towards the back tables but it means they can sit wherever they want on the table they've been allocated!

we're just gunna leave the place names on the table so when they;re happy with their seat, they can put their name there :-)

    Hope that makes sense xXx

we arent having place settings other than a top table (Which i will INSIST we do have) but i really dont think it necessary to tell people they can sit where they want.
When they enter the room if they dont see name cards or a table plan they will assume it is free seating. Thats what happened at the wedding i last went to

that sounds like a good idea actually my day guests are basically family and my best friend and her hubby and h2b best friend and his wife and children because they are the only 'non family' do you think it will be a problem for these to mingle into the family my best friend knows my family well we've known eachother since we were 11 and I was at the birth of her son, my family is a lot smaller than OH so do you think it will be uncomfortable for them to mingle into a family atmosphere, I hope not there are only 45 of us in the day x
