Is anyone else having or had a Scottish themed wedding? My H2B and I are both from Glasgow and are trying to keep our wedding as Scottish as possible. We're getting married in a castle, the grooms wearing full kilt outfit, whiskey favours, ceilidh etc. Just wondered if anyone knew of any Scottish readings or any other ideas sticking with the Scottish theme?

Hi Claire, my OH is half Scottish and has a lot of Scottish ancestry so it's going to be part of our day even though we couldn't be more South ;) we are getting married on Hogmanay though! Trying to persuade the boys to go in kilts and having a ceilidh so far... What about you? xx

Hi Claire! I'm Scottish too. From glasgow originally :) I absolutely love all things Scottish and would really love a Scottish themed wedding but my H2b is portuguese. We're getting married in Scotland and we are sticking to some traditional Scottish things (h2b's going to change in to a kilt in the evening!) but we're trying to bring in portuguese traditions too. I'm of no help really because I can't think of any other traditions but if you do think of some, let me know please! :)

Oh ive just thought of one- it's a Scottish tradition to cut the wedding cake with a sword. Not sure what it represents or anything but I've seen a few people do this at weddings x

have a humanist ceremony and you can do a handfasting that has been pictured above or drink from the quaich. Here are a couple of scottish readings you could do xx
My Luve Robert Burns
O my luve is like a red, red rose, That`s newly sprung in June: O my luve is like the melodie, That`s sweetly played in tune. As fair art thou, my bonie lass, So deep in luve am I; And I will luve thee still, my dear, Till a` the seas gang dry. Till a` the seas gang dry, my dear, And the rocks melt wi` the sun; And I will luve thee still my dear, While the sands o` life shall run. And fare thee weel, my only luve! And fare thee weel a while! And I will come again, my luve, Tho` it were ten thousand mile
O'er The Muir Amang The Heather Jean Glover (1758-1816)
Comin' through the craigs o'Kyle, Amang the bonnie bloomin' heather, There I met a bonnie lassie Keepin' a' her flocks thegither. Says I, my dear, where is thy hame? In muir or dale, pray tell me whither? Says she, I tent the fleecy flocks That feed amang the bloomin' heather. We laid us down upon a bank, Sae warm and sunnie was the weather; She left her flocks at large to rove Amang the bonnie bloomin' heather. She charmed my heart, and aye sinsyne I couldna think on any ither; By sea and sky! She shall be mine The bonnie lass amang the heather.

I love that shawl too Hails :D Also love the tartan shoes but don't think theyre for me.
Cutting the cake with a sword, that could be interesting lol I love the idea of the hand fasting ever since I seen it in Braveheart. we're having a civil ceremony...think they would allow it as part of that?
