Hi I recently got engaged, last august actually.
Trying to find ways to save/plan/pay for my wedding.
Do not want to take out a loan or anything like that.
Ideally a budget wedding however i need my princess to have her ideal wedding!
She's quite ordinary but I think it should be her magical day and she should be treat like a queen.
Any tips or advice would be amazing.
I dont really want her to find out about this.
    My surprise!
    Thanks in advance :)

You'd be surprised at how much you can do yourself or delegate once youve sat and thought about it, Ive just typed out my save the dates, and il be making my own invites, so all youre paying for really is some nice card or something to put them on

Im doing my own centre peices, and when i finally decide on what favours i want, my friend will be making them, im leaning toward cupcakes at the moment. Ive essentially told SIL2B shes making my wedding cake and I'll be getting my dress either off the bay, a charity shop or in the sales

As for saving, you just really need to have a look at your outgoings, maybe see what you can sacrifice, things like takeaways add up, so were cutting right back on those haha, we're naughty and need to cook more!

Most inportantly with saving though, be realistic. You can't break your back every month trying to save a set amount of money as you'll end up skint and fed up, instead just set a minimum amount that you can afford and any more you can then put away is a bonus!

Try selling stuff in your house you no longer need. I made a fair bit on the bay and used it o pay for stuff from the bay towards the wedding. Really helped.

Set a budget of what u think everything costs by doing a bit of research and then work out what u can afford to save a month

We did it that way and didn't get in to debt over it

Set a budget then work out how much it would be weekly to put aside up to your wedding day, and also look out for sales and discounts at wedding fayres... And don't be afraid to barter for some things x

barter... and barter a bit more. also play one supplier off against another (got bridesmaids make up down to paying for only 3 instead of 4).

bay of e is fantastic.. and I'll have about 13 vases to sell afterwards and the venue seem interested in buying them off me (at £4 each when I only paid £1.50)..

    good luck :)

Before you buy a bargain, think about whether it is something you REALLY need or want... That will save you money. Some bridal magazines & fairs will try & convince you that you "need" blah-de-blah... That your day won't be complete without it... But they're just trying to make their living really.
Make a list of what things you've really noticed about other weddings, and decide if that's the kind of aspect you want to spend money on or not. Like the personalised sweeties at one wedding tasted the same as the market stall pick n mix ones at another wedding, but market ones were miles cheaper, so why spend more on things like that if you can help it. I'm sure my OH didn't notice the sweets at either. We didn't see the posh car dropping the bride off, as we were all inside. Is it really worth splashing out on a car no-one will see, and will only result in a (probably?) unflattering pic of her trying to get out gracefully?

So decide on the essentials, the nice to haves and the don't need at alls, and then set a budget. Arrange a direct debit on pay day from your current account to a special saving up account.

Oh, and beg / borrow what you can, and see who can lend you talents (such as cake making) for free.

    Good luck! :-)

P.s. I would guess that it would be the little things that don't cost much that would make her feel special... Thoughtful things, such as a CD of her favourite songs for her to get ready to in the morning, a little pampering the week before the big day, a lace hankie for her wipe her tears of joy...
Oh, and supporting her 100% when things get stressful when planning

My point is, you don't have to spend lots of cash to make her feel special :-)

I totally agree with the girls on here you should work out what you really need and then shop around to find the best price and remember its a day for you and that special person to enjoy. People will remember the happy couple and enjoy the company not judging your choice of favours or table confetti and all those other things :)

Yes I agree, we are not having cars as to us it's just something we are not bothered about. Spend the money on things you are most bothered about and make cuts elsewhere x x
