How far in advance do you send these out? Our wedding is going to be booked for May 4th 2014 (the sunday of the bank hol weekend)
Do they need to be in the same colour/theme as your invites would be?
What does everyone prefer.... magnets, leaflets, bookmarks?
What kinda info do you put on there? There's bedrooms at our venue, which we do have to allocate - so do I mention this on the save the date or is that an "invite" question?
Many Thanks lovely ladies :)
xx

id send them out as soon as you can, so no one makes any other plans. id say have the save the dates a differnt colour keep your theme a secret, thats what im going to do.
im just putting our names and the date on the save the date and im having little cards, but you can have what ever you want. id say the questions over the venue are defo for the invite. x

Literally, ours just said Save the Date, 6th August 2012, then on the other side Selina & MArtin (they were guitar picks!!) Its just telling them who and when, not necessarily where, why and what as well. Just the bare minimum!
Friends of ours did fridge magnets, you can get the roll of magnet from the bay. Bookmarks sounds a nice idea, leaflet would mean giving thme all the details now, and makes the invites later on a bit pointless. you only really need to give more information to those who are coming from abroad, and even then if you send your invites out in plenty of time it should be ok anyway xx

Keep everyone guessing!
I think I may send them out about 18 months prior to wedding - do u think thats too early? xx

I sent ours out around march time and were getting married next june.
They didnt follow our colour theme at all lol our save the dates were black with white swirly writting and our colour theme is royal blue and silver!
They were postcard size and we made them ourselves on vista :)
CommentAuthorkrissy905
to be honest we aren't really asking any evening guest as its mostly close family and friends coming so will all be there for the day but i would just send them to day guests so they can book time off work and arrange travel and accommodation if its needed evening guests wont really need them x
CommentAuthorb2bnicola
My brother is going to design them for us, and ill just print them on card at work lol I was thinking of sending out night time ones to the people that have to travel to come to wedding - but i dont want them thinkin that theyre invited to the day time too (its only for 30 people and its mainly family and close close friends) x

We are sending ours out 18 months before and I will be sending save the dates for the day guests, and save the evenings for the evening ones. That way it is obvious that they are only invited to the evening but they still have enough warning to get accomodation etc :) xxx

I'm right in the middle of making ours. They're going to me an open-out affair, saying that we are tying the knot, and when you open it, there will be some raffia, with a knot in the middle, so as you open, you are literally, tying the knot.;-p
Content, wise, all I've done is say out the date in the middle, and if you cannot make it, it would help with our planning if you could let us know, and put my email address in. Job done really!;o)

Ours were just business cards (but I like the idea of magnets) it said the date, our names and the location. They were completely different to our color scheme as we didn't know what we were going to have when we sent them out.

Our is a very simple postcard that refers people to our website. The evening reception is taking place in Manchester, 20 miles away from the afternoon reception so I wanted to give our guests plenty of time to book things. Ours will be going out in a couple of weeks, with 11 months to go.
If only life could be one long tea break

I didn't realise you had to send them out so far in advance. I may get a move on! Lol xx
CommentAuthorSelinaK
It depends entirely on the people you are inviting Samantha, if there are guests that need to travel or arrange accomodation then it is useful for them to get as much warning as possible, but if people are close by then its not too much of an issue xx

We sent ours out about a year in advance, and my brother did a graphic for us which we emailed out to people as a lot of our relatives live overseas (so for this, we put the city where we were getting married too). We also set up a free website with hotel info etc on it for further information - email was so cheap, we had zero production costs and it was instant with free postage!
If you want to see the save the date it's in our albums :-)

They're actually very easy to make. the only thing you gave to fiddle around with is the margins on the word processor. Once that's done, it's plain sailing pretty much.
Once I have them done, I'll get some pics up on my wall and I'll explain how I did it.

We sent our out about 16 months before the wedding (got married 6th August 2011) - because the wedding was on a Saturday and peak season in Gretna. It gave guests time to book accommodation, time off work etc.
We got magnets from vista and had them in the same design/colour as our invites (and our colour scheme for the wedding).

Defo agree sooner the better as people book things way in advance also I think as for the venue if like me you have half your wedding coming from up north keeping the location secret would be silly so just put as much information that is needed to help as many people out as possible xxx

We sent out STD's almost as soon as the Church as booked and deposit put down on the reception venue. I just designed something on MS Word using our theme as the background and put the basic info - date or wedding and the town it'll take place and said formal invitation and details to follow nearer the time. We then just e-mailed it out to everyone and for those without access to a computer we sent texts and made phone calls. Actually H2B sent his out via FB. xx
