Hey, sorry if this has already been answered, but I couldn't find it and I'm new.
Does anyone know the right time to send out save the date cards (our wedding is in May 2012) and invites. We have the venues booked already so know dates and times. Also, is it reasonable to want to make them ourselves? Who do we send the save the date cards to, is it only day guests or everyone?
Thanks in advance for the advice

most people do it about a year to 6 months before their wedding. but you can send them whenever.

i sent my save the dates 10months before and I am going to send my invites in march, which will be four mnths to go. It says in my wedding bible (a wicked book my friend got me for my bday) to send them out about 4-3months before the big day so im going for the bigger number just to be on the safe side. Oh yes, its totally cool to make them yourself hun, a lot of the girls on here have. I made my save the dates on photoshop and plan to do the same for my invites.... been doing the research today hehe. Send your save the dates to all guests coz they all need to know when the big day will be. Hope that helps :) xx

Im getting married next June (9th) and Im going to have mine sorted by March as my Uncle is coming from Canada and I want them ready for him to take home for his family. We will be sending out our invitations in January next year with a RSVP date of April - as I know I'll have to chase them lol

We plan to send ours out this xmas (about 8 months before our wedding) but you can send them out anytime really. I'm making our save the dates too & know many friends who are doing the same. One way of cutting down costs!! As for who to send them too.. we're sending ours to our day & evening guests, as we live away from most of both our friends & families but I guess it's up to you who you decide to send them too.
Thanks guys :) or should I say gals :) Now all I gotta do is get him motivated to actually take part in the planning :D

I'm sending mine out 9 months before and invites 6 months before because I have to take accommodation bookings from guests and pay it all off (venue that is) 1 month before the wedding :) xxx

I'm sending my actual daytime invitations out around 5 months before the date too. This is because I need to have a minimum number of adults at my wedding breakfast so if I get anyone saying they can't come then I can invite people who are only currently having evening invites all day. I kind of have a reserve list. lol. I'd have everyone all day if I could afford it. I think I may send out my save the dates during the summer. xxx

ive just completed all my invites today - created them on word - made ceremony invites with menu on the back, reception invites with honeymoon money poem on the back, RSVP cards, pillow favour boxes (doubling up as a place card), program, and save the date magnets - cost us £40 all in, with loads of card left (may use them for hen party invites mmm) Just got cut them all out now lol not getting married until October this yr, think may leave it a couple of months to send them out

I love your little poem tilomilo, and you are definitely organised :D I was thinking of stamps and embossing on ivory card...just got to get the H2B involved...we have quite a few guests to send out to...espescially if we have to send the save the date cards to the evening guests as well. Does anyone think this may be too much work for nothing??

Quick question....is it rude to send a letter with your save the dates to ask pple that if they know they wont be able to make it, can they let you know now??? I ask coz I have friends and family all over the world and know that they might not be able to make it, so would prefer to rule them out now before sending out the invites. I don't know if this is rude though. Please advise!!!!!!

I would send Save the Date as soon as so people would know but only to day guests...I would be worried people would be disappointed if they thought that meant they were invited to the Day and then got an invite just for the evening! Could you email / telephone people after you sent the save the date to ask if they had received it and ask if they thought they would be able to come? I want to send actual invites out only a couple of months before the wedding as the further it is away from the wedding, the more chance of people's circumstances changing and not being able to come!
