Hi all Since I have never booked a wedding before not sure when I should send out "Save the Date" cards my wedding is not until September 2014 but my OH's family member quite often go on holiday during the month of September so was thinking of sending them out in the next few months but will this be too early ? xx
CommentAuthorSamanthaG76
I think this varies, i'll be sending mine out 12 months before but some people send them at 9 months, some at 6 months and some even closer than that. In your case, because you think they may book a holiday then i would go for the 12 momth mark :-) x

We sent them out as soon as we'd set the date, especially because we got married abroad so wanted to give people as much notice as possible to save up in case they wanted to come. I think it's fine to send out STD's now, personally. The more notice for me the better!

I've just ordered mine and will be sending them out next month (18 months before) as we are marrying in the summer holidays in a seaside resort area so guests will have to book accommodation (and hopefully wont book a holiday for the wedding date!) Then our invites will be going out 6 months before the wedding as we have to give our venue final numbers 2 months before xxx

Ok great thank you for your advice, I had asked someone that makes invitations and she has said that most people send theirs out around 6-8month before the wedding so thought i would ask for some advice on it xx
I'm sending mine in August this year, will give people 2 yrs notice, which will hopefully avoid them making other plans. I figured the sooner the better really

Thats what I thought as alot of people that dont have children like to go on holiday in september my mother and father in law 2 be always go on holiday in september and so does a few of my partners aunties and uncles. If it was me going on holiday i would book roughly a year before so thought if they had the STD cards around 12/13 month before the wedding then they would know when they can book their holidays xx

for me, the point of a save the date is making sure people have as much notice as possible so they don't make other plans - therefore - get them out! Our wedding is Easter Saturday 2014 so we did the same, sent them out 18 moths to go so people didn't book any holidays!! Xx
Can't wait to be a Mrs to my Mr xxx

where r u all getting yor save the dates from ... r u sending them for just the daytime guests or evening guests too x
CommentAuthorVelcro
Im so undecided about this myself! Surely if people get them too early they are prone to forget? theres no way Id keep hold of a save teh date that long.....
the only thing that makes sense to me personally, is sending mine out in Jan next year (10 months before) as poeople should have their 2014 diaries to put them in
It has also occured to me to send them a year to the date, and hope that sticks in peoples minds
Im just sending them to the daytime guests, il probably just fire an informal email/text nearer the actual date for the evening guests. OR amend my save the dates so it says they are invited to the evening do... thats an idea I suppose.
I'm making mine myself. well, already have made, just need the printer to print one off to see how it looks!

yes i would send save the date cards as it is so far in advance. i get married in 16 months and i am sending mine out in the next week or 2 when i receive them. they will be going to the people who we will be inviting to the day. we will then be sending out the day invites in january 2014 then evening invites in march 2014
So lucky to be marrying my soulmate on 18/07/20
CommentAuthormillz090
I sent mine out a year before, i panicked this was slightly too late as getting married Summer holidays but most people already knew the dates anyway as spoke to them beforehand so was fine.
I only sent save the dates to day guests too, it implies the whole day so think its unfair to send to evening guests unless you change the wording to 'save the evening' xxx

Im only going to send them to the day guests and going to start sorting them very soon !! I know my parent in law to be's always book their holiday 12 month before they actually go so made me think that alot of people will probably do this ! so as long as they all know before septemeber this year i think i should be fine for them turning up in september 2014 ! xx

I was going to send mine out 12 months before but my mum felt that was too soon so I thought 6 months would be better. At this point in time we have less than 5 months to go and they are still sitting in a box under my bed so I think I'll forget it. Most people know the date and I'm sending the invites out at the end of this month so no point one.
I can't wait until 29/06/2013
The day I marry the man of my dreams!

We sent out save the date magnets about 16 or 18 months before the wedding - as we were getting married in August in Gretna, so wanted to give guests plenty of notice for booking accommodation, holidays etc.
The magnets were the larger ones as well, so that people could put them on their fridges (and not have an excuse to forget either lol). They've also been a 'keepsake' for some guests in the family because they've kept them even now (18 months after the wedding lol).

We probably won't do save the date cards. We've told close family the date, plus those who are travelling from further afield. Other friends we've told if they've asked. We'll send invites in January 2014 for August 2014 so that we have plenty of time to get responses in.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.
