When do you send Save the Date cards out to people do you leave it til a few months before the wedding or as soon as you've planned the date. I'm not getting married til October 2012 and wanted to make some Save the Date cards but wasn't sure when to send them

I've just sent my out this month and I don't get married until April 2012, you can send STD up to a year before and then invitations 3-4 months before the big day xx

I'm getting married 7th July 2012 and I've already sent me. I did get carried away and wanted to do something weddingy straight away! I think maybe 9-12 months before is enough time. xxx

We just booked the venue today which was very exciting and was looking at what to do next. I'm constantly looking at bargains but trying to restrain myself lol Will have to sit down with hubby to be and work out who we are inviting now so i know how many to do haha Thanks for the advice everyone xxx

We get married this August and sent out our save the dates around last February (2010). We're getting married at Gretna though - so wanted to make sure people knew the date so that they could book time off work and hotels, transport etc. We're just about ready to send out our invites - with rsvp for 30th April. This gives us enough time to get them back before we go upto Gretna to finalise numbers and payment for the reception etc in early May.

Well I certainly going to start getting list written for who we are inviting to day do and night do then I can start designing my save the date cards, by the time i've made them it'll probably be the right time to send them out lol I know what colours i'm having now so can co-ordinate the cards the same

I've decided on Teal just saw it and fell in love with the colour and as a bonus the h2b likes it too. Thought it would be a nice warm colour for October. Yeah I will probably leave sending the cards til 12 months before because i imagine we will swap and change the guest list round too. I think we more or less know who we are inviting to the wedding reception, its the evening do we will have to really think about, I think its easy to get carried away inviting loads of people but do we really want them there. Glad we got 18 months to sort everything out lol

Yeah I agree with you about the evening guest list...our day is going to be about 70-80 people (trying to keep numbers down as mum and dad have offered to pay for the reception venue and food) so I am struggling to cut numbers for the day as when I first done a list I had 90 without H2B's side....hmmmm going to be difficult but the good thing is I can have 200 to the evening xx

We're getting married at the end of May this year. We sent the save the date cards at the beginning of June last year as soon as we have confirmed the date and time with the registrar.

I got mine as soon as we had booked the venue to set the date to give people as long as possible to keep the date free. Admittedly I forgot to send most of them out so they didn't get them until xmas haha.

Crikey Sian you know alot of people lol. We are having 50 to day do then 100 for evening. Although the package is so good if we did find there were more people to invite we can afford to do it. We will be booking the Registrar in October this year that's the soonest they will let us book so yeah will send them out around the same time

You can book more than a year - you just have to pay a one off fee of £20 which you don't get back.
That's what we've done, cos we booked in December last year!!

We're sending ours at Easter so people (we hope) will remember not to book a holiday the following year and organise the time off in advance.

Blackpool Registrar won't allow us to book more than 12 months ahead, seems the law of the land here but we were advised that if we rang up on the 19th October this year at 9am they will guarantee our date for the following year. I know what you mean Sian, I think between me and h2b we probably know more people than we realise it will be interesting to see how many we actually come up with. I reckon sorting out who to invite will be the biggest headache. Why do we do this to ourselves lol
