Hi i have bought my dress, but while shopping for accessories i came across the exact same dress but the designer and name of the dress were different to the one i have bought. I have bought my dress from a nationwide and well known company but im now concerned that i may have been sold a copy. Has this happend to anyone before anf what would you do in my situation?
CommentAuthorMrsBull2B
I think it is more than likely that the other dress you have seen is a copy. I doubt that a well known, nationwide company would sell copies x

The one i have bought is Amy Hamilton, the one i have seen in other shops is Amanda Wyatt. I was told that Amy hamilton is exclusive to Berketex, I cannot find any information about amy hamilton yet amanda wyatt has her own website and a list of stockist. Berketex is not on that list???

Ive not heard of Amy Hamilton, but have heard loads of Amanda Wyatt gowns, I woud maybe speak to the dress shop x

I read on another forum that berketex sometimes change the names of the gowns to stop.you shopping around. Is that illegal?
I've found before that shops don't give you the name or number of the specific design, presumably again to stop you finding it cheaper, but I usually knew who the designer was. Are you sure the two dresses are identical? You could ask to see the dress in the second shop, and see what they say about designer and what the quality is. Also discuss your concerns with the original shop. It may be that Amy Hamilton doesn't have her own website because she is promoted through Berketex.

It's quite possible yours is an Amanda Wyatt original but as Bertex are not 'official' suppliers they have changed the name on it or, like others have said, it's so you don't go and find the dress elsewhere. I'd be quite surprised if they sold copies.

I have tried both dresses on and they are identical. I have emailed both companies because something isn't adding up. I will be very surprised if Berketex are selling a copy but even if there not changing the name still shouldn't be allowed in my opinion its a missale. Its like buying a Panasonic tv then finding out its really a Samsung not what you paid for.

I haven't heard back from Amanda Wyatt, but i have been in touch with Berketex who are still saying that the dress i have bought is exclusive to them and is designed by Amy Hamilton. I am writing a letter to Berketex as without it they will not investigate. Meanwhile i contacted trading standards to see what the rules are regarding wedding dress designers when they are copies and when they are bot, they had an expert look online at the photo's and have now launched an investigation. Im waiting now to see the result but will be asking for a full refund as im not happy about the whole experience and would rather start again. Will keep you updated.

One bridal shop I went to took all the labels off the dresses and gave them new names so in theory you couldn't go somewhere and ask for the same dress. Doesn't really work though with the internet available, and the shop did list which designers they stocked.

MrsK2b i had read about this on a few occasions, and on speaking to trading standards its actually what they say is a violation of the consumer regulations act 75 section 3. Or in terms we all understand a misrepresentation of a product. Each dress must contain two labels one must display the price and name and the must state the place of origin, materials and designer

Yeah I know of a few shops down my way who when they give you a card at end of the dresses you liked etc, they put down what they call it so they know which one it is, but so you can't find it elsewhere.

I have had a reply off Amanda Wyatt LTD stating they cannot comment on the gown and as far as they are aware it is not a copy. Id like to see peoples opinion. Please google Amanada Wyatt - Annalisa and Amy Hamilton - tulle on google images thanks.

I've just looked them both up - only one Amy H4m1lton that looked the same as the Am4nda Wy4tt came up, but yes they do look extreeeemely similar. The only thing that might be a little different is the lace detailing on the skirt as I can't see it very well due to the lighting in the Amy picture.. (was one from The National Wedding Show dated 2013)

You have to be a power user to post pics here but you can put them in an album on your profile for people to see if you set it to unrestricted.

There is a retailer here in Dundee that change the names of their dresses to prevent their customers from possibly shopping elsewhere. More often than not this local retailer ends up pushing brides away with their sales pushing attitude
