Hi guys, I'm currently emailing the kenyan tour company to sort our safari for our honeymoon - exciting times!
So there are 2 options, the masai mara and Tsavo East game reserves, we'd love to go to the Mara as this is where the migration happens and tbh I think it's the biggest and best one - but it's sooo much more expensive. So here's the dilemma......
Go to the better park (mara) and stay in a less nice accomodation, or go to the other park (still sounds like a great safari experience) and be able to afford to stay in a much more luxurious camp.
What would you do?

Personally, for the experience I'd go with Mara, I've always wanted to do that one BUT as it's your honeymoon I think your probably best doing Tsavo, it will still be amazing and you need to have stunning accomadation when your on honeymoon x

I've just read a book called the elephant whisperer and it was about the Thula Thula reserve so I would be tempted to go there just by what I have read. They are an English and French couple who run the reserve and have created some luxury rooms to accommodate guests and all the money from them gets put back into the reserve and to pay local people to work for them. They are one of the few reserves that have elephants and its amazing the work that they have done for them as they were at risk of being killed and they turned a complete nightmare of a group into a loving family again.

That's what I think - Dave wants to go with Mara, because it's only 3 nights of our honeymoon and the rest of the time we have a nice hotel, he says the safari part is more about the experience than accommodation, but I really like the sound of the other lodges.

If nothing else read the book it is so inspiring and can teach you alot about yourself. Its by Lawrence Anthony the man who owns the reserve.

i have done a 2 day in Tsavo ... it was fantastic ...we found a pack of wild dogs and even the staff at the hotel we amazed as they are normally only seen individually
I'd have to agree with dave. If it's only for 3 nights then the accomodation doesnt rank as high as the experience for me personally x

pennylane cant remember the name of the lodge ....will ask Mr lala
We're going to the Masai mara after our wedding, personally if it's 3 days I'd go for the experience rather than accommodation. You spend so much time out and about. I met someone recently who had just come back and she said she was leaving the accommodation at 6 am and you're grubby and hot and sweaty and as long as there is a pool you won't be bothered about anything else xx

my parents used to go to Kruger national park. They loved it so much they have been 4 times now! (the have recently split up, so wont be going back!)
think it was Kruger Gate they stayed at. My sister went with them once, and cried when she had to leave (was 30 at the time). They say its a magical place, the guides and hotel staff are amazing and the food is out of this world. And i thinks its reasonably priced too?

I've been to Tsavo and it was great. I don't think you'd feel like you're missing anything if you went there

the lodge we stayed at over night had a wooden structure about 5 foot away from the main buliding and every night they hang meat from it to attract the lepord if you go to bed and it come they will come and wake you if you want to see it ....hence the photo.... the night we were there was the first time in 3 weeks that it had come
