    Hi Ladies,

Is anyone else concerned about it raining on their big day?

We booked May as it seemed to be quite reliable with the weather, but this May in Devon has been rubbish. It doesn't help that people keep saying 'oh you're getting married the same weekend as the Devon county show - it ALWAYS rains that weekend.

We were really hoping to get married outside as the venue is beautiful and inside just wouldn't be quite the same. Any one else feel like this or got married on a rainy day?

My uk ceremony was jubilee weekend (june) 2 years ago and it poured ..... We had loads of things planned for outside but had to just give out a big sigh and go with it .... No amount of getting upset would change anything .

i think that's the thing it will be difficult not to be upset as we too are planning lots of bits and pieces outside, well i guess an extra glass of fizz may help ease the disappointment!

I'm worried about it, that's why we booked our wedding for August, when it's least likely to rain. You can never guarantee the weather sadly

The weather in this country is so changeable. My FSIL got married in May and the weather leading up to and after was fairly sunny but on that particular weekend it was pretty cold with quite a few spells of rain which meant their planned outdoor ceremony had to be moved indoors. We've opted for an October wedding (its our anniversary) and the day we got engaged started off nippy with fog but then cleared into a beautifully sunny and warm day. The following year our date was really sunny and hot so we're hoping that this year will be the same but we're making sure everything outdoors will work just as well indoors (just in case).

For any UK wedding you have to have a plan B for anything that you want to do outdoors. It doesn't matter when you do it. My younger brother got married two weeks ago, and my mum's goddaughter two weeks before that, and both had glorious weather, but the weekend in between rained. My twin brother had a June wedding, and at first it was just windy, but then we only managed a few outdoor photos before the rain arrived, although we managed others at the reception venue later on. The following day was glorious. We've got end of August so I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but we can get some nice photos in the church if it's too wet to use the garden. If you want some outdoor photos make sure you've got a couple of white umbrellas so you can be outside even if it rains. You'll need them anyway to go from the car to the church.

If it rains on our big day, the only bit where I may have a slight problem is where I have to walk to get to the aisle for the ceremony as this is outside and is a patio area which means my dress would get wet at the bottom, but I could use a brolly for my hair!! We are not that concerned to be honest as most of our plans will happen indoors, although it would be nice if the sun stays out as I did want to use the patio area also!

As my wedding gets closer this is one of my least priority worries - I was concerned and booked at August wedding - our reception venue didnt feel right inside for a ceremony but they have a lovely summer house and we debated having the wedding there but I would be heartbroken if I ended up having bad weather and having to get married inside so we opted for the church.
My friend has bought me a purple heart shaped brollie for a bit of fun for the photographs and she said if we are prepared like that it wont rain haha. We have a few garden games but I havent spent a fortune just in case but as I said now as the time is getting closer I have so much else to think about and I am just so excited for the day to get here that ce sera sera.

I really don't think it matters what time of year you get married, there is always a chance it could rain. We looked round a venue last august on a Saturday morning whilst they were setting up. The couple wanted their ceremony outside but it was torrential downpour and the lawn had flooded, probably not what the bride had expected or wanted.

I, personally, am not bothered if it rains. We get married in April so it could be nice or awful. It could mean people do not want to go out to the marquee to the bar or to get their hog roast or use the bouncy castle, but we will provide plenty of umbrellas. I just want to get married! Xxx

You can't rely on the weather in the UK.

We got married last May, it rained but we were lucky that it only rained on my way to the church, when we arrived at the church and then after we'd sat down for the wedding breakfast so we were able to get all our photos outside as planned straight after the ceremony at the church and then in the beautiful grounds of our reception venue (bonus is my dress didn't get dirty).

My sister and BIL had an April wedding, they planned for rain and cold, on the day of their wedding it was warm dry and sunny (lucky them)!

I've been to summer weddings, like in August, and it's chucked it down with rain all day as in really heavy non-stop rain.

Try not to plan for good weather, plan for poor weather and then if you get a good day then it's a bonus.

Sometimes rain can be helpful, I find that when I've been to weddings where the weather is perfect, all the guests disappear outside and are spread out. If it's less favourable weather everyone huddles indoors and enjoys the evening entertainment and you get a better party atmosphere because everyone is together.

Whatever the weather you will have a memorable and very special day. Nothing will dampen the happy mood xxx

As everyone's said you can't predict the weather. Our venue is a barn but comes with lovely grounds for lawn games and photos so has bits outside if the day is dry but the barn is beautifully done inside and has many rooms and levels to use so I'm really not worried about the weather. Whatever happens we will enjoy the day as it comes.

Pretty much as above you really can't place a bet on the weather, we live in the UK. What you could do to make the best of it though is speak to your photographer and ask what they can do with lighting and rain. My photographers do such great work with using a light on the other side of the bride and groom when they are standing under an umbrella in the rain when it is dark and when the picture is taken the light flashes behind then opposite the photographer and with both flashes going it lights up the rain around them! It is gorgeous, looks like falling light! So much so I am kinda wishing for a quick shower in the evening. They also did the same thing with fog (remember that fog that covered the country a month or so ago?) and it created a really surreal picture.

I'm getting married in October and mentally preparing myself for it to dump down with rain and be freezing lol, anything else will be a bonus! My mum says its good luck if it rains on your wedding day, ties the knot tighter or something, and its worked for them....48 years and counting so not too bothered if it does.

Victoria am so with you on the photography part, looks absolutely stunning lit in the rain!

As something special, if you can set out a vase or clean container somwehere to catch the rain so you can put it in a nice bottle as a keepsake of the rain that fell on your wedding day. My friend who had an autumn wedding kept some fallen leaves :-)

I've got a wardrobe stuffed full of around 50 or so umbrellas - some nice shiny cream ones for the bridal party and clear ones (from the land of pounds) for everyone else.
Goodness knows, if you've got it, you won't need it! (Marrying in July btw)

We got married in August at Gretna Green and it rained. It didn't spoil the day though, as it was still perfect. The photographer had umbrellas for outdoor pics (we forgot to pack ours lol) and we had a lot of indoor pics taken which we had missed out on if the weather had been different.

thank you everyone for your comments - my H2B also agrees with the photography side of things - at least people won't be squinting in the sun - they will just look slightly soggy! Ha ha

Think i will try the umbrella idea - to prepare and hopefully ward off the rain.
