Mr lala was really romantic years ago ...... the first thing he did was book a holiday to Hawaii 24hrs after meeting me and gave it to me for my birthday.. we went 6 weeks after meeting.

bit difficult now with him being so far away and us being apart for such long periods of time.

Mine has his moments of being really romantic and I think its the little things that count.

I cycle to work and sometimes when he knows I've had a really bad day or its poured with rain on my cycle home, I get in and he has run me a hot bubble bath and put the book I'm reading and a glass of juice in the bathroom ready for me. Its such a lovely gesture to come home to. X

What's romance? Lol my oh doesn't know the meaning of it, very rarely tells me he loves me (I know he does) finds it difficult to show affection etc, his idea of romance is asking me what I want and he goes and buys me it (I blame his parents for the way he has been brought up).

My OH is the same Elizabeth. His parents don't do anything. No birthday presents/cards, anniversaries, Xmas nothing. I have to remind OH when Mother's Day is and he did make an effort this year but last year I had to buy my own present from our LO.

i was dating someone for about 3 months actually, that was really romantic, all the gestures/gifts etc, he was a genuinely nice guy and i felt awful ending it, i just couldnt cope with the soppy lovey dovey stuff alllll the time. i remember my mum thinking i was mental for ending it hahahaha. i think it was a bit much, especially with the facebook status updates popping up with the usual lovey dovey cheese stuff and i was on the receiving end of it. it makes me cringe at the best of times, but when it was about me, it just made me turbo cringe

think me and my unromantic husband are well suited lol

It depends what people class as romantic..... If OH is home before me, he will have a coffee waiting for me. He holds doors open, pulls chairs out etc.... To me that's romantic. He used to buy me flowers every Friday but I told him to stop cos it was costing a fortune lol.

When he travelled back from the Shetlands, he always bought me a bottle of perfume back. I thought that was romantic

My OH can be very romantic in his own unconventional way. For example we do not celebrate valentines day however on the days around it in the past he has went out and bought Creme Eggs and hid them all over the house. I will still find the odd one months later. When I was sick my OH bought me a strawberry plant instead of flowers though there was one time when he gave me a potato... his reasoning? flowers die, potatoes sprout cool stuff for them, you put them in the ground and you get MORE potatoes that you can make mash, chips, roasties etc from.

That being said he has normal romantic moments too. Like we went to Inverness for a day trip and found out he actually booked a hotel for that night and took me out for a romantic meal at an italian restaurant.

My OH used to be romantic at the beginning. He used to write little love notes etc in my books then when I'd open them at ink I'd find the notes lol. He hasn't a romantic bone in his body now lol even his proposal wasn't romantic. Although he will buy me flowers now and again and bring me home my fav choc etc. he never surprises me with meals or nights away though, I usually suggest all that

H2b is very romantic, always tells me he loves me every day and I think it's the little things too I get in and he's made me a coffee, tea is cooking not every night but I don't expect that, he holds open doors, makes sure I'm always happy, we go out for meals and date nights regularly, He surprises me with flowers, carefully thinks of gifts he know I will love and I get surprise gifts too like my new Ghd curling wand 2 weeks ago, I feel very lucky to have such a caring soul mate and I do the same for him too

Hope I'm not making anyone sick reading that lol xx

My OH isn't showy offy romantic but it's the little things that count and sometimes I take it for granted and have to take a step back and realise how lucky I am. Just little things like making me a cup of coffee, making me breakfast in the morning, texting me every morning when he gets to work saying have a good day and that he loves me, always kissing me goodnight before bed time and saying he loves me etc. Buys me flowers on occasions as a surprise.

He used to be a lot more romantic in our early days. I remember once I came home from work to him cooking a 3 course meal for me and he had used kitchen utensils to spell out "I <3 you" on the lounge floor which was the first thing I saw when I walked in. He always used to leave me love notes lying around in different places he knew I'd go, like on the bathroom mirror etc, when he used to work nights and we didn't get to see too much of each other.

My OH isn't romantic in that he buys expensive gifts all the time but I wouldn't want that, he is very romantic though. He will have a cup of tea waiting for me when I get home from work or if it's a hot day a cold drink as he knows that's what I'd want, he asks me what I want for dinner and has it cooking when I get home even though I tell him not to and to just get more sleep (he works nights). He goes without extra sleep of a night just to make sure he spends time with me from when I get home. He tells me he loves me and how beautiful he thinks I am so many times a day. He will bring me little things home from work like a bar of chocolate or my favorite drink. Everything he does he has me at the front of his mind and won't do anything that won't make me happy. He knows exactly what to buy me for brithdays/ christmas without me even having to tell him. He is a gentleman towards me and I feel so lucky to have him.

    Id say I try.

I run a bath & have tea (6pm food tea) for fiancé every Sunday after her late shift, I always make cuppa tea & suggest cuddling in to watch a movie or series. I usually take home a wee bar of her fav choc. We'll go for a nice walk while kids are at clubs. We really struggle for babysitters but I hoped to take her out to near by city for meal/drinks on Saturday for my birthday. Couldn't get anyone to watch kids :-(

I think its hard with kids & if your other half isn't romantic its rather difficult. Apparently saying I love you daily takes away the meaning, to the point its like saying hello & we don't have to be lying on top of each other every night! Plus now she's on major diet mode for wedding, no chocolate is a strict rule!

Although you'll all think, "that's not romance!", I try to use my two days off as constructively as possible, putting on washing machine, dishwasher, hovering, ironing kids school stuff every Sunday. Basically as I appreciate how hard she works I really like doing my fair share so that when she gets in we can have more time together.

And guys usually read the ole "too tired after work, house work, kids" articles so my efforts might be self serving :-)

I came home on Saturday to find OH had tidied his bedside table and had a good sort out under the bed. He knew I was wound up by the mess, so the fact he spent his Saturday afternoon doing it, and then he even hoovered (shock!), is our type of romance :)

Barry, judging by the other ladies comments, its definitely those little things that count and not massive gestures so doing things round the house so you can spend more time together really does count.

And MrsK/GF totally agree with the bedside table thing! How does he accumukate so much rubbish on it I'll never know! X

Haha I try. As do most guys I suppose. I think that sometimes guys think it has to be an overblown gesture that costs the earth. I don't ever think sticking the dishes in dishwasher as romantic, find its as much my job as fiancé. When I've done that fiancé then feels she needs disinfect the whole kitchen because you can see the surfaces!

When fiancé does that we miss out on the time together as she thinks it a competition to see does the most housework. Do you think that maybe you could miss opportunities to just chill together because you let life get in the way?

OH and I say I love you at the end of every phone call, every night and as he works away mon-fri, we text every morning, 'good morning, love you'

I don't think it takes any meaning away at all..... Without sounding too depressive and negative, you just never know what's round the corner and if I didn't say it on that last phone call and something bad happened I'd never forgive myself!!!

It may not be romantic to some either but every night (when he's home) in bed when we turn to go to sleep, automatically our legs meet in the middle.... We never ever go to sleep unless our legs are touching. It's weird not too and it has just automatically happened since day 1!

    I miss him!

I suppose I'm quite lucky. My husband (who I've been with for 10 years) is quite a charmer!

He makes lots of little gestures like buying me something every time he goes to a shop for something else, like if he stops for petrol he'll come out with chocolate buttons.

He writes heart shaped post notes and sticks them in random places. Mostly things like "I love my baby/wife/mou mou goddess (his nickname for me).

He's whisked me off to Paris and surprise dinners out, the best one was when he said "get ready, we're going out. Then took me to a Chinese restaurant in the shard.

He jumps in my bath and always takes the tap end.

He goes all out at valentines and has a single red rose delivered to me at work.
