Hi girls i am about to sent a letter of complaint to the ring shop we went into yesterday could you ahev a quick look thourgh and see if it sounds ok. Sorry its a long post
My partner and i went shopping for our wedding rings yesterday. however this was not a pleasurable or exciting experience as it should be.
I am actualy extremly disapointed in the service we receved by two of you goldsmiths stores in Liverpool.
My partner spend over £2000 on my engagement ring back in june and was extremly pleased by the service he recived in the Liverpool one store (he was served by Allan). He sugested that we return there to buy our wedding rings as he was so pleased with the service, however the service yesterday (sunday 24.10.10) was not of the same standard.
We went into the store to have a browse round at some of the rings. Two instantly jumped out at us (a ladies platinum diamond set wedding band priced at £1099. and a Mans plain platinum
5mm wedding band priced at £799).
We were greeted with a smile and asked if we needed any help again by Allan (he was serving another customer) we said we were just browsing and possibly be back later. We then left the shop and went to look in the Goldsmiths on Church Street to again be greeted plesently. again just browsing we left and had a look around other jewlers.
We returned to the Liverpool one store and asked (Jamie i think.) if we could try some rings on. we were stood at the counter trying them on (not pleased witht he lack of customer service to start with). We were willing to buy the rings there and then cash so we asked if there was any discounts that could be given the girl then became extremly rude and seamed to have an attitude. the best we were given was 12% we were not completly happy as this was still not in budget we left to have a think with the details of the ring.
we went to the church street store to see if they could possible do any better however we accounted a problem looking for the mans ring it was actualy priced at £899 not £799. we returned to the L1 store to buy the rings and when we got there the girl was still as rude and still had an attitude (we know the stores had been in contact), she then said oh we tried it throught the till and it came up at £899 so we can still only give you 12% discount thats ok isnt it, well no this was not ok the ring was on display at £799 NOT £899 we were about to make the bigest purchase of our wedding as the rings are a significant part, spending nearly £2000 again in the shop, we have saved up for this purchase it had taken us weeks and this is how we get treated. We left the shop without the rings and i left extreemly upset i actualy felt like crying.
The ring should have been sold to us at £799! I am extremly disapointed in the way the shop dealt with the matter. This completly ruined a sunday afternoon and a meant to be special day that had been planed for 2 weeks. I will not be purchasing our rings form goldsmiths. I love the rings and was happy to pay cash up front however this situation had put a complete dampner on everything about the rings.
I am extremly angery and upset. I hope that this matter is dealt with

Sounds good hun, gets the point across really well without seeming like a rude customer. Hope something gets sorted and sorry to hear your experience was so bad which isn't fair when the planning part is ment to be so special. some companys are complete idiots who dont care about the customer so long as they make a sale! sods... hugs xx

sounds like a good letter stating the facts , i hate to tell you but the trading stadards laws dont acctually state that an item has to be sold for the price on it if it is wrong, a lot of companys will honour the price ( like Tescos ) but legally they dont have to. sorry to tell u that but i know that would be their take on the situation xx
very happy wife
after a perfect wedding

leafy are you sure? i was trying to explain this to my partner yesterday i work for tescos you see and by law we have to sell it for what is advertised i had to sell a printer once for £49 becuse we had advertised it at that it was meant to be £149
but thanks girls i dont want to be an annoying customer because i know how it feels i just need to have a rant to tell them how its made me feel x x
CommentAuthorleafy
i was reading about it in some info i had through last month i own my own business , so try to keep up to date on legislation was suprised by it myself as i thought like you it has to be sold as what it is priced at. i know tescos have the policy of their own about selling items for what they r priced at but im pretty sure on a legal side they dont have to have that policy it is tescos way of keeping their customers happy and as they have it written in their terms they have to stick to it . i understand ur rant completly i would be the same just thought it would be better telling u on here than having them throwing it at you and being totally suprised by it . xx
All sellers must display the full price inc vat of all goods on sale to private customers. If a seller makes a mistake on the price you CANNOT insist on being sold the goods at the marked price .
Q: When I went to buy a television the price in the shop was £50 higher than the price they had advertised in the local newspaper. Can I go back and insist they sell it to me at the lower price?
A: No. Consumers cannot insist that any trader sells them goods at any particular price. A trader may refuse to sell anything to anyone. However it is an offence for traders to give misleading price indications like this and you should report it to Consumer Protection.
when i was in retail, the law was, if there is a price glich like this the retailer doesnt have to sell it at the advertised price, they can actually take the item off sale then put it back on sale at the correct price. still it doesnt make up for having a rude sales assistant. they could have explained it in more detail to you. good luck with buying your dream rings :-) xx

Can i just say i have read through your letter a couple of times and also read it to Mr lala....there are some things that we think you need to change in your letter ,
1,"We returned to the Liverpool one store and asked (Jamie i think.) if we could try some rings on. we were stood at the counter trying them on (not pleased witht he lack of customer service to start with)". // you dont actually say what was wrong with the service you were given...was it because you were standing trying the rings on ?
2,"the best we were given was 12% we were not completly happy as this was still not in budget we left to have a think with the details of the ring" // it is not the stores responsilbility to get rings within your budget.
3,"The ring should have been sold to us at £799!" // i refer you to my above post.
always put what YOU want the out come to be .
i hope this has been helpful ,, keep us posted ...........i would email the company making sure you keep a copy
ok thanks for the advice Lala will change them now. i looked on the website it says to email so i will so i will email it x x x

without meaning to be picky pop it through the spellchecker, I noticed a couple of spellings and a perfectly written letter grammatically gets treated with more respect than not.....wrong but true!

I'd say as well, if you have actually sealed a contract (by purchasing) then the price you pay is the price you pay - the shop can't do anything about it if it's wrong. However, if no money has exchanged hands (that's the contract bit) then they don't have to sell at that price. Most places will out of good will etc etc. I've written a load of complaints letters in my life (I'm not a grumpy bitch, honest) and best advice is keep it short and to the point. I read it, but I got a little lost as it is a bit too long. 1st paragraph should be something complimenting them (hook), 2nd about your problems you had (line) and 3rd about how you want it rectified (sinker)! If someone is looking into letters written and bills and general paperwork, the last thing they're going to want to do is spend extra minutes reading more than needs to be read, and thus they're less likely to act on it quickly. Don't ask why, that's just how it is!
Sorry if that sound's really nasty it's not meant like that just trying to help x
CommentAuthorXLittleMissMe!X
I'm pretty sure they don't have to sell it to you at the price but if they have displayed the wrong price and withdraw it from sale then they can't sell it for the next 28 days. Maybe things have changed since then but I'm sure at some point there was something along them lines. I would speak to head office though as you are more than likely to get a discount or something as an apology for the bad service that you got. You don't get it though if you speak to store so go straight to the top and you are more than likely to get more out of them.

I'd have to agree they are not legally obligated to give you it at the lower price however it's just common decency to do so or else explain in a friendly manner that the price is infact a mistake. I also agree that the customer service in this store has cost them £2k so complaining may get you somewhere. Like salamander I complain about anything and everything (dont look at me like that lol) I think its vital to give companies feedback as to how their empolyees interact with their customers. And 8 out of 10 times I find that they will compensate me in some way or another. So always worth a shot if you want that reduced price. Just be careful how you word it. You dont want to come across as only trying to get a freebie

not meanig to sound nasty or anything but must agree with lala in saying its not the shops responsibiliy to price rings in ur budget!
and o ask for a discount for the sake of it ..its not fair to other customers that are having full price purchases....yes most jewellers would give u a discount of about 10% if you bought your engagemnt ring from the same shop ut it varies in each store and is in their own discretion!
but i would just shorten the letter down to simpliy what exactly was wrong with the customer services! say that for a jewellers selling couples their rings for their special day.you had high expectations and they failed you and upset u x

I recently got a £10 voucher from a well know supermarket (well, every little helps, right?) just because I sent an email.
I don't have the bottle to ask for a discount, so good on you if you can get one. I agree with what the others have said; especially the hook, line and sinker comment - so cool! But don't get your expectations up in case all they do is send a 'sorry' letter. Good luck :o)

thtas what i dont get...yes its nice to get a discount..but unless it is the 10%off if u bought your engagement ring offer.i think its particularly rude to try and flog a discount off any shop..they are a business and need to make money and can' afford to give discount to everyone and anyone that asks for it! thats what Sales are for!!!! and it juts making you seem you tink you have the right to one cause ur oh spent so much on ur e.ring! i really dnt wnt to sound nasty hun bu thats how it comes acrss in the lettre and if anyone else in the shop get that impression too im notsure they will even reply.
i reallly hope you get an apology hun xx

I think you should just take your business elsewhere and personally wouldn't bother with the complaint. If they were advertising the fact that there was a discount then that's fair enough but I don't think it's fair to complain about the fact that they won't offer you one. I know that is not the only issue, but I feel it sounds a bit greedy in your letter.
CommentAuthorLynz_9
I think it's a good letter, but I also think a 12% discount is quite a considerable amount for a high street store which sells nationwide.
I do think the wrong pricing is unfortunate, and they could have honoured the advertised price and perhaps reduced the percentage of discount slightly.

Sorry to say it but I do agree with mrs mollins unless they were really rude I wouldn't bother complaining you got offered a better deal than a norm 10% off due to e ring purchase and they can't help it's not in your budget. Im in car sales and find that there's only so much you can shop if you find your rings that you love in budget go for them a deal is brilliant, but I wouldn't lose sight of your dream purchase and getting what you want
unfortunately In high street shops you won't always get 100% personal service maybe use one of the companies who come to your home? Then it's all about you 2 and no one else that's what we did and it's loads of fun trying them all :). Sorry if sounds harsh not meant to and I really hope you get your dream rings xx

You want to make it more about the customer service and less about the discount you would get. Goldsmiths Mission statement is Our brand is the heart of our business. It's our public face - the person who served you didnt show the brand off to its optimal potential. It also goes to state in many paragraphs that it is a brand you can trust and reply on but with staff like her you find it very hard to trust them or rely on them if any problems arose xxxxx

I don't understand why you're annoyed about getting a 12% discount? I understand the pricing thing though, it's a bit rubbish to find out something is more expensive, but legally, the price on the till is the correct price. One note about the letter - there are several spelling/grammatical errors, which matters to some people receiving them, and you didn't say why it was poor customer service from Jamie.

thanks for your feedback girls. not been on much been busy opening a new shop it opens on Firday thank goodness.
i have had two emails one from the pa of the regonal manager who passed it on to him and one from the actual reagonal manager ( and i know it is as one of my ex's used to works for the company.) he has appologised and said it should be looked at within the next 48hours as he agrees the service was not up to standard. i changed all the grama in the email and also made a point of saying i am not complaining about the discount i am complaining about how the shops handled the situation and the poor service x x
