Hi EVeryone... Not been on here for a long time... I have sorted a church and venue. However money is getting real tight... My dad said he would pay for everything and now he is moaning about it.... :-( SO now I feel guilty. I just want to get married. I Don't know if to just get married in a register office and go for a meal after and have a party at my home in evening instead.

    What do you guys think?

Sure a party is still a party as long as you're celebrating! A few years ago I went to a wedding where after the service the guests went to a restaurant, we had a meal and speeches, and then we all went home! around 4.30pm! Then in the evening the new couple went for a meal with their parents to celebrate - so low key works!

maybe you should put this in 'big day' category? Why dont you get married in a register office late in the afternoon (we're getting wed at 4pm) find a village hall/ somewhere with a good size function room, get in a caterer to do a nice buffet and just have an evening party! it will work out much cheaper but you'll still have a lovely day xx

i read on theLINK REMOVED website (not sure if link aoowed it info but if not sorry) and there a bit about the cost of church weddings and the breakdown and generally the basic cost is:

•the fee set by law payable to the church: £262
    •your marriage certificate: £3.50
•having your banns read at the home church: £22
•having your banns read at the church where you will marry: £22
    •your banns certificate: £12

    Total legal fee: £321.50

i know for a registry office (varies from place to place) it is: £100 mon-fri £160 on a sat and £325 on a sunday without notice of marriage and marriage certificate.

if i were you though if you have already put down deposits then dont worry too much just see what else you can do if you want to cut costs or speak to your dad about things xx sorry that not very helpful xx

Our church only costs £300, we are on a extremely tight budget of £4000 but have managed, we are getting loads of our stuff on the internet cheaply and doing it bit by bit. There are ways to do it hun, just sit down and work out how much you can afford and what you cant, thats what we have done and have sorted out loads with that sort of budget x

we are getting married in a registry office at 12.30, then those who want to are invited (at their own expense) to join us for a meal. in the evening we have booked the local sports and social club (£40) H2B's cousin is providing music. we are going to the supermarkets to buy buffet food and H2B's aunt is preparing it for us.
one very personal and low budget wedding
