anyone having this? H2B has announced that he would like a religious ceremony, and to be honest so would I. When our venue originally asked us if we wanted religious or civil, we said civil cause we didnt think we actually had a choice and didnt quite understand what they meant! so the registrar is booked.
BUT, what do you need to do to have a religious ceremony? how do you find a minister to come marry you, and do you still need the registrar there to sign the book? and what are the costs involved? I am thinking that it could be cheaper than a registrar coming out which is about £400?

I think you would need to speak to the priest or minister at your local church to see how you would go about it. I am pretty sure you can't have a catholic ceremony outwith the catholic church, but i'm not 100% about a church of scotland minister.
You may also wish to talk to churches local to your reception venue as you may be able to get married there if it is church of scotland.

from what I've read, its cheaper to have a minister and its just as easy :) Your venue will be able to put you in touch with a minister. I think it will be about £70 for the legal side of things and around £120 for the minister xx

Not sure about costs (would think they would be cheaper) but can ask my niece Emma as she got married in a hotel last October by a minister. As far as I know she asked the minister suggested by the hotel but will get back to you on that one too. xx

You can have a church of scotland minister, humanist or a spirualist minister do a wedding in scotland at a hotel venue.
You will need to find a minister, contact the respective organisations and they can supply a list for you.
You do not need the registrar there, you pick the documents up from the registry office and they must be returned within two days once signed so the marriage is legal.
You will probably need to give a donation to the church where the minister is based. the cost varies depending on parishes.

I'm having a religious ceremony in a hotel (in Scotland) and it's only costing us £120 for the minister. The license cost is included in the hotel bill but we'll still have to pay for the other bits and pieces. Our hotel recommended a few ministers but we just emailed the minister local to the hotel and he was more then happy to marry us. xxx
