We're thinking of doing a short and sweet registry office ceremony with just immediate family and closest friends (about 20 people) then maybe a restaurant with those people and then just throwing a party that evening for about 100 as a wedding celebration in a nice dressed function room somewhere.

I still want to wear a wedding dress, have flowers, 2 bridesmaids, and a pretty 'after party' venue but none of the big meals etc. Majority of guests will just be coming to the evening celebration.

Has anyone done this or been to anything like this? Thoughts please!! I'm hoping it can still be a nice day for everyone, even when super low-key.

Many people here do that as the registry office only holds a small amount.

Sounds great! I'm getting married abroad so will just be having a party when we get back. Buffet / hog roast or similar, nice room, DJ, photos and possibly video playing of the day.
You can always jazz up the room if you like:)

We got married in a registry office in Gibraltar wore an A line wedding dress with semi cathedral train. There was just 6 of us. We then had a full wedding blessing 5 days later with friends and family. Whether the dress was a bit OTT for the registry office I didn't care as it was mine and my now husbands day. Do as you wish. x

I would go for it. When you book the restaurant see if there is a more private area you could have. No need to say its for a wedding and just pay for the meals on the day like a normal meal. If you wanted to you could still do favours but really no need.

    Sounds lovely :)

Thank you everyone for your comments! I think I just needed a bit of reassurance, when I told my chief bridesmaid her faced dropped! Haha I think she was hoping to help plan the big traditional white wedding!

But this is what my H2B and I are comfortable with, we just cant justify more than a couple of grand on a wedding when we have a house to buy! But we definitely want our family and friends around to celebrate the occasion and this way we feel like we get the best of both worlds! And I can make the 'after party' really pretty to make some of my pinterest dreams a reality!

    Happy wedding planning ladies!
