We're (hopefully) booking the registrar and venue in a week or so, I know where I'm up to with the venue, I'm just not sure what to do registrar wise. I don't know who I'm suppoesd to ring or anything haha

I'm getting married in Manchester, so have been told to get a registrar from manchester, but like... where do these people actually reside? Do I get in touch with Manchester council, or is it a seperate body?

Once I've got that figured out, the rest is easy! (well....!!)

Call the registry office local to your ceremony venue and they should tell you what to do etc. xxx

Just been googling, and come across this

''How much notice do we need to give?
You cannot give a notice of marriage more than 12 months before the date of marriage. A marriage cannot take place until 16 days after you have given the notice.''

Does that mean I cant book it for another year?! what if we book the venue and then the registrar isnt available on the chosen date!? And it's told us to use our local council registrar which is Rochdale, which is stupid, because we live in Manchester anyway!

What you will need to do is to go and give notice at your local (to where you live) registry office 12 months before your wedding date to get your marriage licence certificate, giving them the details of where you will be having your ceremony even if it's outside of your registration district. Once you've done that, contact the registry office local to your ceremony venue to book a registrar who will then need your marriage licence certificate before they conduct the ceremony xx

I'm sure you'll be fine hun. My sister and BIL booked their wedding with 6 months to go and they managed to get a registrar to conduct their ceremony out of the registration district they live in and gave notice in xx

Haha yeah, Im prone to over reacting too, I suppose all I need to do for now then is just pick a date with the venue, arggghhh!!!

Well, at least now I know what I need to budget for the registrar, £320 for one to come out on a Friday/Saturday. So that can go in my budget planner!

You can book your registrar up to 2 years before the wedding day, but it is not confirmed until you give notice so they just pencil you in up until then to make sure you will have someone for your date :) My friend is getting married next August and booked her registrar this April :) xxx

The diary for 2013 wasn't open til Jan of this yr, we phoned up several times last yr to check and they said Jan 2012. So we provisonally booked it in Jan this yr but you can't give notice more than 12 months in advance, we will be doing ours beg of Sept.

    Hope that helps.

We provisionally booked our registrar in November 2011 for our wedding in September 2013, I think we have to go and make it definite 12 months before (h2b sorted it, so I'm not exactly sure) but we've definitely been able to at least get our names pencilled in!

yes you have to give notice in your local registry office 12 months b4 then once it's been on the board for people to see for a few weeks they send your details to the registrar who'll marry you and then you get confirmation. it is easy really :)
