To get married in my local church, I had to pay £895.00!! and they have just asked if Id like to make a donation towards flowers THEY are putting in the church off there own back even tho I have told them already I don't want flowers in the church! bloody cheek if you ask me!

Holy cr@p really? I live in Scotland and the cost for a humanist wedding is £390 (in 2015).
My sister got married in her local church for just £100.

This is one of the reasons we chose to go to the registry office as it was going to be £495 for the registrar to come to our chosen venue :(

we originally chose registry office cos it was going to be **GULP** £700 just to have the registrar walk next door to the corn exchange where they are licensed.......i mean really!!?? Then theres all the wedding fees on top..... Weve now ended up booking a church at £421 - but as its not in our parish have to pay another £36 for the "priviledge" of having someone read our banns at a local church! Does anyone actually go to church and sit there to listen incase they hear the name of someone they know intending to marry ? I mean surely as its all over bookface as soon as your engaged if you were hiding another wife/husband someone would have cottoned on and wouldnt wait until that bit in the ceremony?! lol x

Our is costing £337 for the registrar to come to the venue including the certificate.
After 7 years and 11 months he proposed to me 18.10.13

Oh... and I have to pay £34 on top of that for my Banns certificate! ..... I do live in West Sussex on the South Coast, I generally think things are way more expensive here. It is A very lovely and pretty church.... and it holds a lot of family memories for me as we have had several family and close friend weddings there... Plus I've been Godmother twice there too, but still............ I cant help but think they are very money orientated! xx

I know that the venue we've booked is 'the one' and i dont want to get married anywhere no matter the cost - it just came as a shock - i was expecting approx £300, but its costing £433 (thats 2014 prices mind they've told me the price will increase for 2016) then 2x £35 for giving notice. thats £500 + i wasnt expecting lol!! xx

not everyone is charging it ...YET apparently. Wigan council don't yet, but we only had to give notice to them. Lancashire Council DO, and it's them that charged us just for the initial phone call

What caught me ore by suprise was having to pay the whole lot there and then, just assumed it would be a deposit system like everywhere else! Apparently they had to change it as people were paying deposits then not confirming nearer the time so registrars were going out unnecessarily.

I know it's ridiculous! I was shocked when I found out how much it costs our registrar is costing £500, with a £50 booking fee!! I couldn't believe it was so expensive. I also can't believe the different prices between different registrars you would think it would be the same fee for every where! X

You have to pay booking fee's as well? Yikes. Our Humanist is just telling us to either pay at some point on the run up to the ceremony or if we like on the day.

Here has told me that i need to pay the £50 booking fee there and then to secure the date and then i can pay the rest as long as its no later then 8 weeks before the wedding so i'm thankful for that!! lol xx

In my area fees depend on days such as bank hols and where you are getting married such as it's cheaper in the registry office rather than getting married in an hotel however it's cheaper rates when they will be coming to our cathedral which will be £84 however we will need to pay £35 each for notice of marriage and we will paying some money to cathedral to do ceremony :)

Ours is £415 but may change next year April As wedding in October 2015 Friday wedding mine i believe is 60mins service the long one the price hasn't gone up for the past two years as this is 2013 price but it may increase and we are subjected to pay the new fee as it will be added to the bill
