hello i have what might seem like a daft question but here goes.........................................we are planning to marry in the hotel where we are having our reception etc. i was just wondering our local register office is in one town but the hotel say we have to go to the register office local to the hotel which is different to our local one. is this right? does it complicate things?

it matters as you have the give notice of marriage to your local district and if the hotel is classed as being in a different district then your district has to inform them that u plan to marry there... i think lol x x x

You need to serve notice of your intent to marry at the local register office as does your partner if you live in the same area. If you live in different areas you need to go to the one in each of your areas to serve notice. If you want to get married in a hotel or venue out of your district then the registrar for that district has to perform the ceremony so you need to do both. imagine if you lived in Yorkshire but were getting married in Gretna Green you wouldn't expect the registrar from Yorkshire to travel to Gretna..lol hope this helps.x

Yeah it is too early to arrange the registrar...march 2012 is the earliest. But they are really helpful and will answer all your questions. I emailed mine loads before. We were on first name terms and quite friendly by the time we met lol

Then on the day u need to pay another £325. xxx

Each area must differ. It cost us £50 to reserve the date, £67 to post our intent to marry and £380 for the ceremony and license.

It was free for us to provisionally book the date but it didn't get confirmed until we had given our notice a year to the date. When I lived in Derbyshire they wouldn't even let you book provisionally until the year to the date so you had to book a venue then pray to god that you got the time and date that you wanted by having a mad dash to be the first ones there on the date to book it. We had to give notice at the registry office in our area then they send the notice over to the registry office that perform the service.

we are in a similar situation and i think we have to visit both or at least send the details across to the non-local one. Notice of marriage at least needs doing in our local area.
