This is a bit of a silly question but I always wondered about that.

Lipstick on a bride is not very convenient, is it? Especially bright red like I am planning to wear!

I wear red lips fairly often and smooching is a no no then - not the distance you want on your wedding day...
I am in a bit of a shallow vain pickle here - I want lipstick but also smooch :-)

    Lipstick thoughts?

I have a revlon lipstain and I use this with vaseline rose balm during the day to tone it down but I find this much stickier and runnier than a very dry matte lipstick. A matte lipstick doesn't come off with a peck on the lips but I guess h2b wod like to kiss after we say yes without looking like a clown :-))) But I see so many red lipped brides on wedding blogs and always wonder how they do this :-)

I wore a deep pink lip for a christening I went to recently. I didn't use a lipstick though just a lip liner all over, proper stuck on all day, survived plenty of smoochies and only wore off when I ate and drank quite a bit!

I'd definately just raid all the red tester lipsticks in boots and start smooching your hand. You'll have fun and find a lipstick that doesnt smudge! You might wanna take a friend to help you otherwise you could look odd on your own lol if you can pull a red lipstick off id try find the right one and go for it!

LIPCOTE, it works so well. I love red lappy but never wore it because my hair knows when I have it on and smears it all over my face. So I had a look online and everyone suggested Lipcote... Went to superdrug and bought it and it works really well!

Only issue with it is that some people complained of dryness and also stinging while it dried... I didn't get any stinging at all but maybe it's because they do advise that you prep your lips with Vaseline or carmex for ten mins before applying and obv don't use on chapped lips!

I also find that lipstick looks and stays better if your lips have a touch of foundation or primer on. I usually do foundation, then lippy and blot before applying lipcote and it works really well :)

I think even the mattest of red lipsticks (and thats to my knowledge Ruby Woo by Mac) will smudge with a proper kiss.

I like the boots no 7 lipstick range - very matte and dry, don't run and stay on all day no matter what I eat or drink. Should do a smooching trial run, shouldn't I? :-)

Definately should! If the lipcote causes dryness maybe try puttin lip moisturiser on first or afterwards? xXx

I heard a few horror stories about Lipcote which is why I didn't get it before... People saying oh it tastes and smells bad or it hurts and stings your lips and it's unbearable... But I really wanted to wear my new red lipstick so I took the plunge and it was fine. I followed the instructions, put a bit of lipbalm on about ten mins before trying it and I didn't get even the tiniest of tingles and my lips haven't dried or anything :) its very good!

I also swear by Carmex lipbalm for keeping lips happy and smooth... I used to get really badly chapped lips every winter but since I found carmex, I haven't had anything worse than a little bit of dryness.

Yes I was going to suggest Lipcote, also I've seen suggestions where you give your lipstick to your bridesmaid if she has a bag so you can touch up during the day!

What about that maxfactor one thats like a paint...you put it on and it just stays on and dries (bit of a strange feeling) and then you get a gloss thing to put over it. It doesnt smudge but you need to put the gloss over it otherwise your lips feel quite tight if you know what I mean. I think its called lipfinity

Yes that's true dry or matte lipsticks tend to feel tight and weird on the lips but the great advantage is it never runs and you don't need lipliner to save the gloss from going into the little creases. I am not that old but the older I get the more I realise the tiny wrinkles around the mouth because glossy lipstick runs.

I always use No7 lipstick but I also have a neutral sort of colour by 17 (another Boots brand) which is ok for day to day. No7 is definately better for long lasting colour. Vaseline is a good idea is for the pics to make it shine! really like that pic :)

I wear red lipstick a lot... it is THE best colour!! My bridesmaids are having red lips with their black swing style dresses... I would have worn red lipstick if I'd have gone for that style but I went for a big red dress so will have natural lips.

Sometimes I wear a neutral gloss... but for going out it has to be red :)

My trouble is kissing - like full on kisses. My lipstick stays on all day, I can eat and drink what I like. But I doubt it won't rub off on h2b. And that's my main concern and why I started this thread.

I really like the look of red lipstick but not on me, I feel like a drag queen. Probably because I never wear lipstick so it feels alien, it's a shame though as I thnk it's a great look.

LMB - practice practice practice then share your results (and please share after the day) your forum comments are great throughout.
I'm glad you raised this - I am going to wear red but probably wouldn't have thought about the smudging until the day and it would have made everything go to pot. Thank you for sharing and to everyone for advice. I am going to go to boots this week and try out suggestions ( i think I have the impression one but didn't like it - might try it again and use it properly)

After reading these posts I went out and bought a Revlon colour stay ultimate liquid lipstick (Top Tomato) I put it on and it last ALL day long and didn't come off and stayed on evenly too which is a bonus. H2B is now a happy bunny that he doesn't have to wait until it wears off to kiss me! Perfect for the big day!

(it did however appear to be still on in the morning a bit even though I had to do a bit of a scrub the night before) but for the wedding day I don't mind as long as it doesn't come off or smudge!

I also bought a red lip liner and tried that too - didn't smudge but after a couple of cups of coffee it was half on half off and I looked ridiculous - d'oh.
