Since I was a teenager I've had redness on my arms with little bumps-my sister calls me sand paper when we have to sit in a car together!! I've got a strapless dress & 5 mths to get my arms prepared for it!!
Does anyone else have this? Any tips? Harsh scrubs make it worse so something not too brutal please :)

    I'm gold now wohoo!!

my H2B has this, it seems to clear up when he's out in the sun. So maybe go in the sun or on the sun beds to help clear it up

i used to have something like that on the top of my arms n legs. I exfoliate everyday in the shower with exfoliating gloves and the first couple of days its a bit sore and redder but i find within about 5 days its really smooth. if i don't do it for a few days it does start to come back. Mine also clears up by itself when i'm on holiday i think a mixture of all the sun and swimming in salt water

I've had this before and have managed to get rid of mine! Try using body scrub and a rough loofah when you're showering, it smooths out the skin and gets rid of the bumps. Well, it worked for me anyway xxxx

It's called Keratosis Pilaris, basically it's too much keratin in your skin and it often gets blocked in a hair follicle which is what causes the red dry spots.
There's nothing that will spot it or cure it but there's stuff that will minimise the look of it.
Taking evening primrose oil is supposed to help, natural sunlight and moderate ex foliating
I have it quite bad at the top of my arms at the moment but I find washing with Johnsons baby shower gel which has baby oil in and smoothering myself in baby lotion helps!

I've had this since as long as I can remember. It's bad on my legs and lower arms. When I was at school the kids used to take the p1ss saying I had the lergy and wouldn't pick me for teams. An 'ex' used to call me chicken legs!
My son has it as well. Well he got my good looks intelligence and charm so it had to even out with something bad ;0)
It looks better with a tan but I think that's just 'cos it hides the redness.

Its excema according to the doctor. Its best of you ex foliate regularly to get rid of the build up of skin and use a body lotion I use palmers cocoa butter and it really helps.

I also have the chicken leg thing on my legs but thats not the same as the tops of my arms but this is also made better with cocoa butter .

I would pop along to the doctor to see if he can diagnose what is causing it and he may be able to give you something or at least advice on how to control it.

I've always had these on the tops of my arms and my Nan called them sugar spots- I don't think it's to do with the amount of sugar in my diet more like the fact that they feel like little grains of sugar on the skin!

I also have skin sorosis on my elbows and one knee- sunlight is supposed to help with my sorosis but I've never noticed any difference- my solution is to have a jacket to match my dress made to cover my mankyness!! lol

Sometimes scrubbing with a puff and shower gel does help to reduce my sugar spots however!

    :-)

I used to have this, and a beautician told me its just bad exfoliation and circulation. I dry brush my skin (or get those exfoliating gloves, and lightly use them dry on the skin before a shower), use circular motions to boost the ciruclation and lymphatic drainage. Then make sure you moisturise well after the shower. You should notice a good difference after a week or so.

If you buy a body brush (They are not expensive) gently brush in circles on your arms BEFORE showering, infact they are so good I brush all over daily in strokes towards the heart as this improves circulation..hope this helps!!!!

Wondering if anyone else has this?! My upper arms are bumpy, like goosebumps, but all the time. I think it's called keratosis pilaris.
All I do is scrub in the shower and moisturise which does improve it slightly, but I'd really like to get rid of it before the wedding, although I know it's probably only me that will notice it I don't want to look at my pictures arfterwards and it be all that I see!

Does anyone know if there is anything you can tke to improve it? vitamins or anything? Or anything else I could try applying to the skin rather than just a moisturiser?

    Z x

glad not having it but i defo recommend using oils for babys to make it smoother & sunlight

my brother has had eczema very badly and those things seem to help for that (sunlight and special creams from pharmacy and doctors)

I have had Keratosis as long as I can remember and I usually just exfoliate with gloves, and it hurts a bot at the time but it does make a difference.
My daughter (19 months) has a skin condition that has got progressivly worse in these winter months, everyone tried to tell me it was execma, so took her docs, turns out it's keratosis :(
I feel so bad that I've passed this horrible condition on to her, hopefully she grows out of it. The doc persribed her some oily bath stuff and moistuerizer to be used twice a day. I obv won't exfoliate her skin but does anyone else lo suffer from this? And how have you coped to make it better for them?
As a tip the doc told me when rubbing moistuerising always do it in a downwards motion, stroking the hair follicle down, as rubbing in circles or upwards upsets the natural hair flow and allows for further clogging of the pores. When reading this prob seems very obvious but I was certainly guilty of slapping on cream and rubbing in any which way, so just thought I would share as I really appreciated being told :)

I have this too on the back of my upper arms and my thighs all around - but no redness just the bumps. Had this for as long as I can remember - but I never minded it that much. It gets better in summer and worse in winter with the heating on. My 3 year old has it too.

Very good tips here, thank you.

I have KP and psorisis, I find for the KP foot works foot cream works brilliantly because it has extra moisturisers and a good dose of the sun usually clears it up. I had really struggled to get rid of my psorisis for years I had a small patch on my knee that grew into a large patch, then another patch appeared. This year when h2b were on holiday we spent most of our time on the beach and the patches were exposed to the sea, sand and my oily sun spray. Halfway through the holiday h2b pointed out that my psorisis had nearly gone. Since coming back from holiday I have been spraying oil on most days and there is only one bit of flaky skin. I find cures come in the strangest of forms.

    I can't wait until 29/06/2013
The day I marry the man of my dreams!

I also have this, when I go on holiday or on the sunbed it improves dramtically. I have also started a new moisterizer its Garnier body intensive 7 day lotion. You can get a normal moisterizer or a cocoa butter fir dry, rough skin. Use that after a really good exfoliate in the shower you see an improvement really quickly :-) xxx
