can anyone give me some advice on what to do..... The venue cut and served the cake before we knew about it and we hadn't even cut the cake I am gutted as we now have no pictures of the cake or of us cutting it as we never got the chance to do it.

Oh my, Joe that's terrible! I'd certainly write them a really shirty letter (not email) and send a copy to the management of the venue and see what they have to say. Explain that you can never get that moment back and as anyone know, the cutting of the cake is a really important part of the photo portfolio. Hx
Have you spoken to the venue? Was it a mistake by the staff? I think you should be able to get money back, but I don't know what they could do about you never getting a photo of it. Its such a shame

Where my friend got married a few yrs ago, the venue actually dropped her cake! literally dropped it, and said that they had'nt had the delivery of it!..CCTV revealed that it was dropped and then shoved into the big wheelie bin! The workers were sacked for it, but she was more upset, like you about the photographs that never happened. I would defo complain massively! Good Luck x

That is truly awful!!! I am really excited about my cake and would be devastated if that happened!! Definitely complain and if they are reluctant about compo, mention that you are a member of a very popular bridal site and you understand that word of mouth can be very influential in future business. Let them stick that in their pipes and smoke it!!!!! lol. Good Luck. xx
CommentAuthorkimmy
At the very least they should supply another cake and arrange a photo shoot shouldn't they?
CommentAuthorEcoFreak
Whaaat?! This is awful!! why the he11 did they do that?! I'd be complaining until their ears fell off..!! xx
CommentAuthorClairebear67
Oh my god, that is disgusting what on earth were they thinking of, I have never heard of a venue doing that before, you are not being neurotic hun honestly,no way should they be allowed to get off for this, complain to the manager, complain to local paper, you have a right to compensation and I know its not the cake you originally had but I agree with Kimmy make them organise another cake for you and get some photos done and bump the costs onto them. Or what MrsL2be said, get them to give you the money back for the cake that they cut up. They totally fucked it up. x
CommentAuthorStevie_Dee
Yes definately complain. Most brides spend months looking for the perfect cake. You want photos of it and the memories of you and your new husband sharing the cutting of it together. The following is copied and pasted and you may want to include it in your letter to them, to show them the tradition, special memory and photos they have have taken from you. xxx
Why do we 'cut the cake?' The bride and groom cut the cake together to symbolise their first shared duty as a married couple. It also makes a great photo opportunity for the assembled well-wishers.
What's the protocol for cutting the cake? When the cake is brought out, it should be placed on a beautifully decorated table which stands in front of the top table where the bride, groom and all the major attendees sit. If it's a big cake, you will want to make sure that it is situated somewhere that allows the rest of the guests to see the head table.
The cake cutting should be announced before it takes place to allow everyone time to get ready. Usually the cutting will take place after the speeches have been made but depending on what the bride and groom choose to do, it can actually take place later on, when the evening guests have arrived so that they don't miss out.
When they make the first cut, the groom should place his hand over the right hand of the bride, and they will together cut the cake. The groom then feeds the bride with the first slice and then she returns the favour. The feeding of cake to each other symbolises their loyalty and dependance on each other as life long partners. The cake will then be taken away to be cut behind closed doors, and the cake will then be either served, or wrapped up to be taken home by the guests.
