    Hi all,

I'm after a bit of advice!! We are getting married abroad and so only about 30 of our nearest and dearest will be there...so we are having a party when we get back 'or wedding reception' as we are being forced to label it!! lol.
Ive already started getting quotes, some seem reasonable for just room hire, then some are just plain crazy!!! Hiring a marquee and a venue to put it in is so off the radar due to the cost- but i really want it to be a nice place, and don't want it to look budget at all!!
We are saving massively by ging abroad, so maybe I can justify spending a little more than an average party price for a place for the evening, but when places here its for a wedding they just se ££££££££ and the price shoots up!!!

Ive thought about telling places Im having a 30th Birthday party, its fancy dress, Im going as a bride lol.

Does anyone have any ideas (In the North West of England- around the manchester/wigan/preston areas) of what venues are available for hire at a decent price- that wont turn me away for not having a full day wedding??? (that has already happened by the way!!!)

Any help and creative ideas would be appreciated!!!

    Thanks
    Danni

have you tried looking for free function rooms hun? ive just done this and very pleased with the result I only have to pay them £75 to take my own food although they did say they could do a buffet for us and we can take in the candy cart etc with us so its defo worth a shot x

    31st August 2013 I became Mrs Carrick
Cant wait to do it all over again in 2018

How many people is it for?
Hotels with dining rooms should just be able to serve you X amount of meals just for the price of the meals.....
We did this, we got married in a register office, then booked 18 meals at the hotel, it was in a lovely room just big enough for about 30 people, perfect size for us, they served us like a normal wedding reception and we got to keep the room on til midnight for just us, as it had been booked out to us....and they didnt charge. The hotel is a favourite for weddings, and there were already 2 weddings going on elsewhere in the hotel, and they had booked the two larger reception rooms, which they DO charge for, but as ours was small.....they just charged us for the meals which was perfect, because we decorated it every bit as beautifully as the other proper wedding rooms.....
Alternatively what about a church hall and do your own buffet?

you can easily spruce up ANY venue by draping tulle or some other such light material from the celiing and letting it hang down the sides of the walls. Light and easy to do and gives the marquee feel indoors. it is what i am HOPING to do! Also going to add some white xmas tree lights behind some tulle as light curtains cost £200 to even hire! I have added a few ideas of what i mean...this may help you as someome suggested it to me as i HATE the reception venue i have been stuck with, it is scruffy and run down, but free lol

I also added one of an easy way to decorte top tables, someone also suggested this to me, as with drapes and lights and balloons you can transform even the grubbiest plain venue into something magical

thanks thats fab- i know i was thinking of something like this, because we do have about 120-150 guests coming, so id love to go for the hotel option Raggedy Anne said, but we just cant with that many I dont think- and the hotels near me are charging thousands (one even tried charging me more than my WHOLE wedding abroad!!!)
I will have a look at church halls or something and go with the drapes idea- luckily i have a friend whos family business is decorating weddings, so im hoping to call in a favour!!!
I just have people from work coming and i dont want them to think i live in a rubbish place and that the venue is a bit scrubby lol. Need to get over it!! lol.

Cool pics janie, inspiration for many I'm sure.

I was worried that my marquee will be seen as cheap and budgety (which to be fair it is) but with some hard work and decoration I'm hoping to pull it off but with a May holiday I'm praying weather is nice and most people will be milling around outside.

Sadly the "W" word has people adding huge percentages to the price, its unfair

Its in a pub garden. Its done separately and you get exclusive use of the gardens, play areas, outside bar etc.
So technically its at a pub.
You'd be surprised how many of them have them to hire.
Cheaper option and you can make it your own.

Hi, the W word def ups the price. I have been to numerous weddings recently generally at posh hotels which are beautiful however I really resent the fact that they charge £20+ for a bottle of wine that tastes like battery acid! As a result myself and the H2B have chosen to have our evening reception in a county pub. The pub is beautiful with wooden beams, outside seating area and a safe enclosed area for kids to run wild and best of all drinks are not extortionate amounts! Have a look if there are any pretty pubs locally x
