    Hello All

We have found the perfect venue, on the perfect date :) The only problem is that the registrar is only available at 11am. This means that we will have quite a large gap to fill between the weren't breakfast and speeches and the evening entertainment.

Our budget isn't huge, so any suggestions of filling this space is much appreciated. The venue comes with large grounds, but I think that there is only so long that I can expect people to walk around for

    Thanks

Do you have much out door space? I saw pictures of a wedding who put on a cricket match pre wedding breakfast. Although any games could be fun. Ive also heard of people making their own "pub quiz" with the questions relating to the couple.

we went to a wedding and they had a gap of about 2 hours between church and meal, in that we sat in the grounds, chatted and listened to music, would it be possable for the venue to supply outdoor chairs and a sound system? and access to a bar? xx

I think as long as the guests know that nothing is expected of them in the gap then the music and bar idea sounds nice. Most people will be pleased to catch up and have a gossip in between times anyway so as long as there are drinks and somewhere to sit most people would be happy

    xx

Adults tend to love the chance to have a catch up with relatives or friends they'vve not seen for a while. I'd plan something to keep the kids occupied. Something quite active so when it's time for food they'll be happy to sit down and eat. But saying that the wedding i went to last week there was nearly 2 hours 'spare time' and the kids just got on and entertained themselves, but they had activity books at the table to keep them quiet whilst the speeches were taking place

have a rounders game or get some giant chess boards and connect 4 put out at the venue i think you rent them for not a lot.

I'm getting married at 11am and i've told the venue we'll be there at around 1pm and we want to eat at 2pm. and then there will be a gap between the meal and the reception but hey i can't please everyone so i think we're all going to go back to our rooms and freshen up and then sit in the upstairs bar bit of our venue. so it should be fine.

can't you talk to the venue you and tell them you want the meal earlier?

Also plan something for indoors in case it rains. Most people will entertain themselves but it is always nice to have some background music etc. Its only like if you go down the pub on a night out. You don't have someone there to keep you amused all night.

As for the kids if they have decent parents they will have already thought of bringing their fave toy etc with them to keep them amused. If there is open space most kids will run around it and entertain themselves making their own games up as that is what kids do. You could supply some cheap colouring books and crayons if you wanted. I got some smart price ones from asda and took out the card and placed our own in with the wedding date and the kid's names. Didn't cost more than a tenner for 23 kids but looks like we have gone to town on them.

We are also doing a colouring comp in which they all win a prize for doing us a picture of our wedding day as I'm going to make a kids guest book out of them.

You should know by now that all ideas are up for grabs! I think they should be the way of the future. I'm really looking forward to seeing our day through the eyes of the kids.

Thankyou all so much for the ideas - they all sound great.

The outside space is amazing, so that will certainly help.

We are going to end up with two gaps - the first between the ceremony and wedding breakfast which I am hoping to fill with photos, welcome drink and encourage them to all have a brief walk around the grounds.

Thinking that the outdoor games are a great idea for the second gap after the wedding breakfast and speeches. As the venue isn't a hotel, our guests won't have rooms that they can retire to.

The venue is great, there is lots of indoor space and they even have a room that they put aside for the kids to play in. Might look into the cost of a comedian or something to try and fill part of the gap, as don't want themgetting bored if the rain is upon is.

Loving the suggestions, keep them coming in

My friends that got married last year had an activity pack for the children to do which contained books, quizzes, mini toys and some choc - they loved the colouring comletition!

We had about that much but you will be surprised how fast it goes. Photos take a while and I had a giant snakes and ladders and hop scotch ready just in case, but as it turned out the weather wasnt that warm so people mulled about inside chatting which was fine! People won't get bored but mybe warn them that there will be a gap so they can bring a snack if you aren't having canapes or anything. Thats what we did and people were fine about it!
