OK so heres the thing, i am having a reasonbly small wedding was planning a £5000 budget and that was going to be plenty. but times are tight and i kept having to dip into the wedding fund for other things. so i have decided to do the invites myself, and actually there not that bad. my dad is actually going to borrow a friends car. but things are still tight, especially on the food front in total with wedding breakfast and evening buffet its nearly £2000, and i have saved money using the same venue for ceremony, breakfast and reception. Has any1 got any ideas on where else i can save money? do you think its cheeky to ask wedding breakfast guest to pay for themselves? and bm and groomsmen outfits, buy there own? really struggling ladies need your help PLEASE XXXXXXXX

The biggest way to save is to DIY- stationary, cakes, favours, flowers, decorations. Find your creative side or utilise the skills of friends and family.
Groomsman- wear a suit they own instead of hiring, just have matching ties/cravats etc. Bridesmaids- pick a colour and ask if they mind finding a dress in that colour
Wedding breakfast- I'm sorry but I would find it cheeky to ask people to pay their own. Look into cheaper alternatives like buffets, hog roasts bbqs etc

you still have 23 months to go hun so you can still save a fair bit in that time. i wouldnt like to ask my guests to pay for their own food especially after them making the effort to come. use ebay,its a god send!!!!! tell your bridesmaids that things are really tight but you still want them as bridesmaids ,butcould they buy their own outfits,look at high street chains instead of bridal shops for their dresses

OMG this was me talking last night after doing my budget sheet!!
You can't ask people to pay for their wedding breakfast, a big no-no. How we're going about the food situation is this - I'm a trained chef and know where to source quality food fairly inexpensively. I'm putting on a 'posh nosh buffet' basically it's finger food with fancy names. So far I've got it down to between £6-£7 a head. So, could you find a venue such as a village hall/sports club etc and cater yourself? Is your evening buffet necessary?
It's the norm for BMs to buy their own dresses now, it's also the norm for Groomsmen to hire their own suits.
As *naff* as it may sound - jewellery, Claire's Accessories, H&M, Accesorize - almost identical to the stuff in the bridal shops (quality not as good, granted) but instead of paying £200 you're paying £20 :)
Wedding dress - there are some right bargains to be had if you're willing to hunt around, I've just bought a £1500 dress for £300. My shoes will be coming from somewhere like ASDA or Tesco or New Look
Look for things on Amazon or Ebay - treasure troves of wonderful cheap bits

yeah i thought it would be bad form on the wedding breakfast thing, but i got the venue for nothing by having a set wedding breakfast menu so i cant change it.

There are a chain of hotels who for next year are charging £2200 for venue hire including civil ceremony if needed, wedding breakfast, evening buffet, welcome drinks + wine for breakfast, DJ and overnight stay for Bride & Groom - seriously, shop around! (I'll post link of said hotel chain on your wall!)

ebay hun!! I got my veil there for £16, favours for £12, tiaras (mine for £11 and the BMs for £4 each), balloons, ballon weights, necklaces, Cufflinks (£12 for 4 pairs), im also having silk flowers they cost £210 (6 centrepieces, mine and 3 bm bouquets, button holes, corsages and top table arrangement), BM shoes - primark for £9 each my invites are home made - they took ages!! but they cost about £50 which is good considering most you buy on the net will set you back £250 my dress was a lucky buy, bought it online in USA for £250 and it was an original. Paid £40 to have it altered. Try gumtree for hair and make up arists cheap. xx

i am saving money everywhere i look, all i have bought for my invites is posh printing paper ribbon and evelopes that only came to £30, tiara and veil sorted, using my cousins old one, its really beautifull. The budget for the dress is getting lower and lower lol, at first i thought that was the main thing i cared about, i just wanted the huge big fairytale dress, now i just want all our friends and family to come, guest list has come down from 150, wich i didnt think was alot considering we are both really close to all of our famillies, to 70 people, and thats just immediate family we see every other day and only about 5 friends. i feel like i am gonna dissapoint people if i dont find a way to get them paid for.
