met up with my dad the other day and he's not giving me away at the wedding, my brother is, so to save any arguments he's usher. (thats not the confusion just thought id put u in the picture lol). anyway he asked us how it was goin with the wedding and we said we'de sorted most things but the thing we're most stuck on is the gifts for the ushers and best man. (not a clue). and he TOLD us to get his a fountain pen as he would really use anythin else.

so this post is kinda for 3 questions really...

    1. Are the Ushers meant to tell us what to buy them to make it easier or am i just getting upset cause my dad just plainly annoys me?

    2. Are the they all meant to have the same?

    3. What are other people getting for the men? its the only thing im really stuck on :-s x

I think it's useful he told you what he would like since you don't have any ideas. Even if you are supposed to get ushers the same gift, he's still your dad so getting him something else is perfectly acceptable in my opinion.

I have no idea what to get our men either, none of them are big drinkers or fit typical engraved usher stuff.

I agree with legobride, telling your dad you don't have a clue what to get the usher/best men etc, and him saying what he would appreciate is properly his way of trying to help you out with it.
I don't think you need to get the ushers the same gift, We're certainly not doing that as they are both SO different! but neither fit the typical "usher" gift. So still not really sure what to get for them. So can't really help much there. Infact really struggling with all he mens gifts! So any ideas that are not tankards, pint glasses, or alcohol related would be really useful! xx

Women are much easier! We got jewellery all round. Necklaces/bracelet for bridesmaids & MOH, a watch for best man and cufflinks & tie pin for fathers/ushers.

He's trying to help but it all realy depends on your budget if you want to get everyone separate gifts - our ushers were my brothers and for ushers and readers we gave them thank you cards. For hubby's dad who was also best man we gave him a champagne afternoon tea voucher for him and his wife, as he's 71 - my mum who gave me away got flowers and a huge cross stitch kit as she loves it :-)

lucky you - I would love to be told what to buy - a hard decision. None of our people are going to get matching gifts. My lovely friend just got married on the weekend and had bundles of gifts for her friends - I asked her how she managed to find something for so many people and this is what she said:
For gifts I would recommend antique markets - they were the most soothing place during the stressy bits. Helps to see old things and remember how insignificant your stresses are and look at pretty nice things. :)
