Basically, my aunt has paid for my wedding dress for me, which I absolutely love. But as its stored at her house (I have a dog that moults like crazy and an extremely nosy mother) I've only tried it on once, so I asked her to send me some pics of it. The first one she sent was of her best mate wearing it, which was taken before I had the chance to try it on myself. I dont think she meant to send me that one. I'm really upset by this, but my aunt cant see the problem, as it was preloved and "people would have tried it on in the shop anyway". She says she only put it on her so she could see the way it falls and to check the condition of it, but why would she have taken a photo with her mate grinning like a goon?!

    Am I overreacting ladies??

I wouldnt be happy either hun, you've never seen anybody in the shop trying it on so it is different seeing a pic of her friend. At least she now knows your not happy and shouldnt be doing the same again? x

My other half's mother is in the middle of selling her house, and all my bridesmaids live miles away from me so I stupidly thought my aunts was the best option, I did give her a telling off but she is still arguing the point and saying 20 people could have tried it on and I wouldnt know the difference! Families eh? :(

I have asked her if she can pack it away and put it in the attic until further notice, but who knows whether she actually will! I'm going to ask a few of my friends if they can take it but most are still living with parents and dont have much room. I think she will be quite offended if I store it somewhere else so that might be a kick up the bum for her. I'm glad I'm not making a mountain out of a molehill here though :) thanks everyone

I think she feels that because she paid for it, I wouldnt mind.. actually I cant believe how upset I am, I'm not normally the type to cry over spilt milk but this has really got to me. Maybe if it was my aunt who tried it on I would have understood (though still have been mad about it!) because I know she will never get married, but her best mate who I have met once?! Now I am just waiting for the whole "I bought it" thing to be thrown in my face lol

lala.. the dog isnt too bad but the other problem is the other DOG known as my mother, who is a total cow and would first give me her scathing opinion of it and exactly how massive it will make my backside look and how someone with a kid shouldnt wear white, then probably put it on while I am out, parade around in front of her mates in it and post the pictures on FB, before "accidentally" damaging it

no one is ever trying my dress on!! TOTALLY not allowed. I wont mind if someone asked, because i would just say no and really appreciate that they asked first at least - but to just find out!!! I WOULD GO MENTAL!!
    no way!

This is not cool. I agree with lalabunni get a cover and store it yourself.

Mine will be stored at my mothers house, and i know she will guard it with her life!! she'd be way way more protective over it than me, and she wont even let anyone see it let alone try it on!!

I'd be peed off if I let someone look after anything and found they'd been trying it on/letting friends try it on; I mean, if you were at a friend's house and they were like 'Ooh, look at this wedding dress I'm looking after, want to try it on?' most normal people would surely be like 'Err, no?'... If it was just a regular dress I'd be annoyed, but a wedding dress?! It could easily get marked or damaged, you just don't do that.

I also think it's irrelevant if other people have tried it on, because the difference is you don't know those people and they don't know you; whereas you hardly want people you know trying it on, it makes it less special >-(

I hope you get it sorted. sit down with her and just tell her what the dress means to you - if she has never been married and never will like you say - then maybe she just doesnt understand how it feels.

I have to admit, Before I got engaged i probably would have tried someone elses wedding dress on (after asking them of course) but now I have a dress of my own, i know how personal it is and how hurtful it would be for someone else to wear it.

Dont get angry with her, just explain to her that you appreciate everything she'd done, but you would love to make sure that that dress is yours and yours alone.

I have two dogs - and the reason i woudlnt want to keep my dress at my house is not because of the hair, but because i am soooo clumsy that I will be stupid enough to leave the dress out and they will start chewing away!!

I havent told my h2b this - but when he was an usher to his friend i layed out the suit on the sofa to take a look, I thought it was lovely and he was going to look so smart so i ran over to him in the other room to give him a hug - I came back to the living room and the dog was sitting on the suit!! LUCKELY they didnt pee on it or anything - they were only about 12 weeks old at this point and not totally trained yet!! eeeek!
so that gives you an idea of the type of person i am - clumsy!!! i dont think my mum would trust me to keep the dress safe - and when I told her my shoes arrived the other day she practically screamed at me to keep them away from the dogs!! hehehe!

I would feel the same as you. I wouldnt want any one trying 'MY' dress on. Photo of it hanging on the door-fine- but someone else in it. Bang out of line. Hey Millwalljayne,

I'm normally quite laid back about this wedding planning milarky and all the finishing 'touches' that seem to stress some people out very much. However this is on another level for me I havn't even thought about dresses yet but I would HATE that. To think people are parading about in your dress, your very special, very expensive- one day in a lifetime dress. Well.... I think it's flaming awful of them....

If you were to have it at your house how would your mum know, do you live together?
