is anyone putting on transport for their guests? my venue is a 25min drive away from where all my guests live but they are all moaning and complaining to my parents about how they are going to get back if they have a drink, (mainly my mams sisters and their families all of which drive!)

a coach for them to get there is going to cost me £300.. should i say look you would pay for taxi's petrol anyways so its £x per seat or should i pay which i believe is expected of me? also they are only coming on the nighttime and my daytime guests are going to be expecting the same treatment so my coach is going to be bringing 16 up on morning, 32 for the beginning of evening do then 48 home.

opinions please as stressing both me and h2b out! lol

I personally wouldn't bother. Some of our guests are flying half way around the world (including a couple of my cousins who I've never met!) without bother so I'm sure they can book themselves a taxi.

we're not hun, no way could we afford it, we can only just manage transport for ouselves and i must say H2B's parents are annoyed we're not providing transport for them, but they are not contributing to the wedding so why should we provide transport from them?

I've travelled half way through Ireland and up to Scotland for weddings but I always think it's a nice touch if there is transport laid on. Our venue is a 4 miles from the church but it's a nightmare sorting out taxis late at night so we're paying for a coach to and from.

I'm hiring a routemaster bus for £350. It will collect family from 2 different hotels, including bridesmaids etc, take them to church and then onto the venue. After that my guests have been given local taxis numbers to get home. That way they can leave at anytime (those with small children, may want to leave earlier) and they only have to pay for a taxis one way!
I didn't think about passing this cost onto guests. I have a think about that one :-)

we're putting a few mini buses on as our venue is just over half an hours drive away n we just felt that some people may prefer not having to drive or get lost finding our venue !

I think if alot of your family want to travel together it's up to them to get a mini bus or whatever, look a few up and give them the details, but make it clear they are paying NOT you! x

We're putting on our wedding website that guests have to make their own way and putting the numbers of taxi firms on (we have a few out of towners that wouldn't know who was best to ring)
Transport for Ross and I is costing enough without shelling out for everyone else!!

I won't be supplying any transport for my guests. However on the night of the celebration party I am offering my grandparents a room at a local hotel and taxis to and from because my Grandad doesn't like driving in the dark and I really want him to come.

We didn't have to put on transport for guests in the evening because 99% of the guests were either staying in the same hotel or the hotel a couple of doors down the road. Only my in laws were staying in a hotel at the other side of Gretna, because they couldn't get the same hotels as the rest of us - but they got their own taxi back.

From the wedding venue to the reception (about a mile) I rang the local taxi company and they supplied a couple of minibuses for us to get all the guests there. For that, the in laws taxi from their hotel to the wedding venue and a taxi for a couple of the guests from the hotel to wedding venue only cost us £20 altogether (so reasonable in Gretna lol).

I've been wondering the same. Our venue is about 11 miles from where most people live (about 25-30min drive) & we're having the whole day in the same place, so I'm wondering if we need/should get transport for people? Some people will be staying close by overnight but I'm wondering whether to phone a taxi service & see if I can get some mini buses on standby for people & see if we can get some sort of discount? Arghhh, this is the hardest part of the day to work out!!

25-30 mins - I cannot believe people are moaning. I have been to weddings all over the country and have never expected the couple to sort out our transport or where to stay.

Most of my guests live 25+ miles from the venue - I will be trying to contact a premier lodge or similar to see if we can get some discount on rooms and I will tell the guests where I have arranged discounted rooms - but I will not be getting them to and from the hotels (Prob 2-3 miles away) and will leave taxi numbers near the bar.

Don't people realise how much a wedding takes to organise without extra bits like this!

Iv got a bus going from hotel to church then back again only because it an hour away and my church in not in the town you have drive 5mins out of town down little lanes to the church which is sit at the month on the river on rock next to a castle and it hard to get to, the bus is taking to the town then a boat out to the church, iv told my finished who helping get people in right place that if anyone moans about the boat show them the taxi rank and tell them to make there own way to church.
I.v put a list of hotels on info sheet so people can make they own choice of where to stay as there is lots of hotel all in walking distance from each other on that if put taxi number as will, and said bus pick up at hotel 10.30am so they have make there own way to hotel then after party make own way back to where they are staying.

so im getting married abroad.... thankfully nobody expects me to pay for them to get there!! (relief!) however the airmiles would be fab.
I dont think you should have to do that at all 25minutes??? thats a joke.... i travel further than that to work every day!!! and i bet some of them do too.

You are not being unreasonable by suggesting taxi numbers- maybe call ahead to pre-book some for a preferential rate???

They will be there wether you organise the transport or not, wont they?! So stick to your guns...and your budget and tell them you'll see them on the dancefloor. lol xx

We have hired a big red vintage double decker bus so asking all guests plus grromsmen to meet at our recpetion hotel in at midday (alot are staying the night before anyway at the hotel) and all go on the bus together to the church. The village is small so don't want it full of cars plus middle of no where then we are all going back on the bus to the recpetion after the wedding including me and bridesmaid and most people are then staying at the hotel again so dont have to worry about driving xxx

We're putting on a coach for people, but just for the evening guests. If people want a lift for the night who came to the day do they need to ask us, and we have put it in the invites to make sure that people RSVP and let us know if they want the coach.

    It's costs us around £380 for a 70 seater.

On the other hand, I've been to plenty of weddings where transport wasn't put on and I never really thought about it, I just made arrangements around it! xx
