We have found a lovely pub to have as our reception only one problem with it... No outside space! Does anyone think it really matters if there is or isnt i cant make my mind up! We only have a few children coming i think there is around 8 our daughter being the youngest she is 12months old. The plan is to have a late wedding and just have a buffett (Keep cost down) & Plus the pub is free to hire on sundays and we can do our own food etc. My h2b thinks it will be fine but thought i would ask you lovely people what you thought :)

Im sure it will be fine hun, kids will be happy enough inside just give them activity boxes or something to keep amused just in case. And smokers can just go out in street lol! as long as it not gonna be so cramped u cant move inside and falling over each other i think u will be just fine hunni :) what a lovely idea, to keep cost down and still keep everyone happy and have a lovely evening :) xxx

It sounds ideal if you're having a late wedding and a buffet. What month are you getting married? We got married at 2.45pm, had pics etc then had our meal at about 4.30/5pm. By the time the meal was over, no one wanted to go outside anyway (we didn't have outside space really either). We all finished up in the bar for the night.
When we had our evening reception (a few weeks later), we had a buffet - but again no outside space. Nobody bothered about that (even the kids - had a good time inside instead). The only people that went outside (just to the side of the building) were the smokers (but not many of them either).

It would be august but its not set in stone yet still waiting on our church to get back to us. I dont think there is many smokers inthe familys maybe 2 or 3.
My parents are not keen onthe idea they would like us to have some outside space but where we live there isnt many places under budget that would have the outside space. Where the pub we have found we can do everything under budget with money left over for other bits and bobs x
the only access to outside space we have it a balcony, we dont have any kids coming (well h2b'S neice and nephew who will be 3 and 4)
its not a big deal breaker for me... but if it is for you then maybe reconsider? if your not bothered about outdoor space then your sorted! x

That sounds fine, at a friend's wedding she brought a dress up box for the kids and left an activity pack on the children's seats at the tables so they could keep occupied during the party...

we are hiring a local village hall and that doesnt really have any outdoor space but i prefer it that way, then our guests wont be split with some indoors some outside and makes it easier for us to go round and chat to everyone xx

If you've got a not of a dancefloor I think that's all that matters I've got bout 20 children coming so I had the struggle of finding somewhere in budget

we only have a budget of £1500 for everything excluding my dress so we needed to find somewhere that was local so not many people had to travel, but could fit everyone in and have space for tables/dancefloor/ dj etc. and the village hall was ideal. then we found a local company that will do us a buffet, a bar and disco for £800 :-) so all together the reception is costing us £892

i to am on a budget we are hiring a village hall which has no outside space either i would have loved a late wedding then a pub reception with buffet but the latest our registrars does is 3 oclock and the local pub we first wanted and viewed was good but after shaking our hand on an agreed price they called the next day to tell us they were putting it up by about £1000 so we ended up with a village hall which is fab and a outside caterer and a sit down meal lol mut i think the late wedding buffet is a great idea and if no outside space least your guests cant wander off lol xx

we are having a 3pm wedding then heading off for some photos to a local national trust area for couple hours then heading to the hall to welcome guests at 6.30 giving us a bit of down time in the middle. We were originally having a pub reception but they suddenly put their price up too and the area to use was much smaller and less food than what the other company is supplying plus the bar is 50pence a drink cheaper than what a pub is (guaranteed to go down well with the guests)....

All the village halls around my way are hard to find, we have family coming all over so thought city centre would be best plus walking distance to the church. We have to pay £200 deposit onthe night the money goes behind the bar :) £150 for DJ. Church is £503 And were doing the food ourself unless we can find a good company who can do the buffet for us. Im glad everyone thinks a late buffet is a good idea, I thought having it late means i havent got to be up at the crack of dawn and get ready and then havent got to rush around like a mad woman Lol x

I've just been to look at a local pub/restaurant and I love it. It's quite small but that suits our party well (less than 30 guests), there is a main room with bar and a smaller "chill out" room with comfy sofas. Its within walking distance of the registry office which is cool, and if we have the food from them we get the rooms for free. The buffet is only going to be around £250, and its quite classy for a pub. And if my inlaws don't fancy hanging around the reception (they're not really a sociable lot!) they can always pop downstairs for a pint and a pie! It is definitely top of my list right now
