    Hi Guys!

I've got the contract through for the band I'm having for my wedding and it states that we need to provide food and drink for the them. This is fine, obviously! I was just wondering if anyone knows of a cost-effective way of doing this? Should I buy crates/packs of things or put a tab behind the bar? I really don't want to over-spend on this.

Any already-married's got any advice? :)

My venue provides bar food, for the photographer as we are not having a band. It was £8.00 which was fine for me, I just need to confirm with him times etc. I think most 'wedding' venues do this. Alternatively you can ask your caterer to make a sandwich plate up for them? Friends have also told bands to help themselves to the buffet.

Ah my venue is a Grammar School so not a normal venue - we're sourcing everything independently. Making up sandwiches would be a good idea actually, thanks :)

Our DJ was invited to help himself to our evening buffet. We didn't have to provide food or drink but I wanted to give him some food. Can you let them have some of the evening buffet then maybe tell the bar you'll provide them a certain number of soft drinks.

    Is it evening only???

Why can't they just be part of your buffet at the interval ?

I'd just put a load of bottled water by their set... X

im not having an evening buffet; we're having either a hotdog vendor or hotpot supper. I suppose they could be part of that for their snacks but their contract states that they need a hot meal providing before their set starts (at 8:30pm)

Was thinking of getting the catering staff to make up some plates for them after our main meal is done, what do you think?

Have they specified how much you're to provide them with? I'd be wary of that as your already paying for them to be there, you don't want them taking the pee and then having p**sed wanabe rock stars ruining your wedding - i've seen it happen, not good at all!

I also think it's really cheeky of them, a hot meal provided BEFORE their set?!! Their set is way past tea time lol! xxx

    Hi there,

What does their contract say? The string quartet we had during the day specifically requested a mixture of sandwiches to be provided in their contract, plus soft drinks.
We had the cater make them a mixture up, and gave them a couple of bottles of still water.

The evening band were less fussy, we just let them help themselves to the evening hog roast during their interval, and put some money behind the bar for them to have some drinks.

    I hope that helps x

My venue has fixed numbers for my guests. Any suppliers that have provided me with a quote, and asked to be fed too have been disregarded. I have received just 2 that have asked for food. I don't ask people I work for to feed me, nor do I get paid for my lunch break, so don't expect others to be cheeky

I don't think it's cheeky at all for a band to request food... My h2b is in a band and they covered a reception back in June and by the time they finished and headed for the buffet, it had all been cleared away and only cake was available. Feeding 5 grown men on just cake to me is not acceptable. Yes bands are expensive but they are also human and need to eat an drink... It gets vvv hot on stage under their lights...

Clairenina does that mean you're not feeding your photographer?

We're not having a photographer. 2 of our guests have offered to take photographs.

I don't go to work and expect anyone I work for to feed me. Since my post this morning, I have spoken to 3 of my friends who are professional photographers, and each saying they have never expected or asked to be fed. They are going to work, like everyone else.

The contract says we need to provide a sufficiant hot meal for 3 blokes, good supply of soft drinks (I'm going to buy a amsll crate of bottles water) and snacks for later (They specified biscuits or finger food) I was going to get the caterers to make up some butties.

I'm all for feeding my band and photographer, deffo! I just dont want to spend any more than I have to, if there are cheap optionns..

Just an ask...When does the photographer usually eat? She's not mentioned anything, i just assumed she'd need fed and watered at some point, seeing as we have her for 12 hours!

I think it's usually when everyone else is eating, they do photos of the speaches but before that time, they're free to eat xx
