hi ladies its me again, i recently posted on here about how i was thinking about getting married in the NYC, really keeps running thru my head ... mum just keeps mentioning it and we see any other family she mentions it in front of them and they are like "thats a fab idea" then the other day my h2b piped up and said hes swaying more and more to the idea, but hes always thought it was a good idea just wanting family and friends there ment more ... its really hard just dont know what i'lll do ... flashes thru my head and we can do this and this then later i'll just say to myself no we'll stick with the orig plan...

So i thought id do a list of pros and cons....pros and cons of getting married at home and pros and cons of getting married on your own abroad can you help list by giving me your pros and cons of the two...please!!!!
love to hear what you all come up with and it might help me make my decision..

To me, a wedding day is there to celebrate the fact you have got married with your friends and family that you love and that love you. If you can still do that abroad then fair enough, but if not then I personally wouldn't feel right doing it. You could always go to NYC for your first anniversary and renew your vows out there as well as having the honeymoon there though? At the end of the day this is just my personal opinion and it is yours and your h2b's day so you should do whatever feels right to the both of you xxx

My pro is - You are already on your honeymoon so no separate expenses - Plus it is a wedding you and your guests will never forget.
My con is - Family with ill health or in need or much medication may find it difficult to obtain insurance or find it difficult to fly regardless of if they desperately want to be there. I only mention this as this was our biggest drawback and has prevented 3 vital members of our family not joining us in Cyprus next week. On the upside it's amazing how many of our family are pulling together to join us over there we have 42 people coming. Initially I thought there would be no more than 10.

If your dream is NYC I would go for it. If it is more the idea of a hot climate, and combining a wedding and honeymoon, have you maybe considered somewhere closer that family would find easier and less expensive to travel to? It may be a compromise to have your "away" wedding but have as many family members there as possible. xx

I agree with linzi-jo. To me, it is a celebration and your loved ones want to celebrate with you. Personally, i wouldn't get married abroad, but i know lots of people do marry abroad and absolutely love it so it just comes down to whatever you want to do. If it's what you and h2b want to do, then do it.
I think there's a thread about this somewhere where people said if they were marrying home or abroad and why, that might be helpful to you?

Do you think they'll go to new York? It's lovely how many people are going to stevie-dee's wedding, but if I got married abroad I know my family wouldn't be able to afford to come. Even if they could, my brother and sister both have children and my mum's scared of flying. If it's important to you that your family and friends are there, I'd think about if they would go xxx

i think i know that if we were to get married in new york i would have to face the fact that it would just be us and a couple of witnesses, dont think the family will travel and can imagine the only two people poss three would be my side, my side the 3 of them my mum, best friend, and my cousin, have all been to ny before, and have travelled long distance, where as h2b family arnt travellers big on holidays, furthest is spain or greece, so cant imagine them agreeing xx

Of course it'll be special either way :) as long as you and h2b are together, that's all that matters.
When I'm trying to figure things out like that, I think would I regret it if I didn't do that? That might be a helpful way to decide xxx

I think that, if everyone is saying you should do it abroad, then you should go to NYC :) Sometimes other people can see what we really want, even if we can't. Plus them being so enthusiastic says to me that maybe they'll come?

We keep on wanting to go abroad & have decided on two different destinations at different times (Iceland & Vegas) - both of which would suit us. However, although my family have been very enthusiastic about it, I know that his parents would struggle to pay to join us, as would a very close aunt/uncle/cousin on my side. As we couldn't imagine getting married without them there, we've decided to stay at home (for now anyway lol! So indecisive!).

As you said, what is important is having a special day for you & h2b - perhaps ask the key people whether they would consider coming to NYC? You won't know if you don't ask :) Xx

Ps - IMO I think you should go to NYC, it's clearly your dream :)

If it is your dream to get married in NYC then you should follow it :)

Me & my h2b are going to Kenya to be married. When we booked, we certainly knew no one could be there & to be honest we wouldn't have it any other way because I am really looking forward to how intimate it will be for us but it's all personal choice of course!

The plus side is you have a blessing & party when you come back & get to wear your dress all over again!

Good luck in your decision & I am sure whatever you decide it will be the right one for you & h2b x

Did you see the episode of don't tell the bride in NYC? He did an Alice in wonderland theme as it was her favourite book and it was amazing! All my siblings have married abroad and my mum hasn't been able to attend any of her children's weddings so I have always said I would only do it at home. H2b has a very fractured family so has always said he would only do it abroad to save on arguments hence why it has taken us 8 years to move the planning on!

We are getting married at home but I was I'll prepared for the problems it has caused with friends, it is soooo much hassle and I'm starting to understand why people do it abroad. Too Kate now though and for me having my family there is the most important thing.

I'm very indecisive myself so I'm in no position to give advice except do what your heart is telling you, xx.

We had a slightly different approach to getting married abroad as my h2b's family is actually there so our choice was a little different, but we have had to deal with people from our England friends and family not being able to join us.

Weddings are for family but it's your day first and foremost so you have to do what is right for the two of you and if your hearts are set on NY then go for it. There is nothing to say that you can't have a reception when you're back and invite all your family.

our reasons for going away to get married.....firstly the cost, secondly planning here and inviting people that we never see was getting out of hand. Once we got it into our head about abroad i just thought at the end of the day its about us, and we would have happily went away on our own in the end up. Was lovely having guests there too. It was just no stress at all and thats all i wanted for my big day, we had a reception when home and wore our dress and kilt. Perfect. Go with your heart xx

my sister got married in Canada and loved it she had 4 wedding quests me and my mum and his mum and dad it was great stress free and so much cheaper and they went straight on to there honeymoon when she came home she had a large party for everyone who didn't go and had a photo slide showing pictures of her wedding day, she says it was the best decision she made kept all the costs down and meant she could have 3 weeks travelling around Canada.
And we stayed in Canada for 10 days was the best wedding ever and holiday lol.

don't do things to keep everyone happy do what you both want and what a better way to remember your wedding day then having a trip of a lifetime
