Not that I know of, most book a trial beforehand so you can sort out any issues before the big day! A lady at my beauty salon got married a couple of years ago though and went to a makeup counter in a high street retail chain, and afterwards had a really bad breakout on her skin, lasted over a month! Apparently the brushes were most likely dirty so check out the state of them when you have your trial, and definitely book it at least 2 months before in case there are any problems and you need time to find another one!!

I think you also need to make sure they know if you have any allergies or skin problems. If you don't your home free so to speak. I'm alergic to tea tree oil and I always have to check the labels on stuff as I know it's in quite a lot of products. I also have sensitive skin and can't use some perfumes. Other than that I'm happy with my choice of make-up artist as she was personally recommended by another bride.

I don't think you can beat personal recommendations.

I have really sensitive skin and quite often new products will bring a rash up on my neck, so I asked my make-up artist to use my products which (of course) was fine.

The only bad thing I've seen is when my sister was a bridemaid for someone else and the person doing her make-up made her look like a painted doll and she was almost unrecognisable! I was very firm with mine that I wanted them to look natural and like themselves, she did a brilliant job.

Im doing my makeup myself with premium brand cosmetics as I know how I like my makeup. The thought of someone else doing it and it looking wrong or too much is bad enough never mind the idea of a reaction to a makeover at a cosmetic counter!! I bet she was livid!! Was it close to her big day or did she have time for the reaction to disappear??

Nope it happened on the morning of her wedding day - she was absolutely horrified considering she herself is a beauty consultant who specialises in skin treatments so her skin is in tip top condition!

OMG thats like a complete wedding day horror story!!! What did she do then?? Did it start straight away or did it take time for the reaction to appear? How did her photos turn out?? Hope it wasnt obvious. Did she get any like compensation or anything from the person coz thats completely out of order.

So glad I am happy enough doing my own makeup :(

Her makeup was on so thick that it looks fine in the photographs, in the evening she started to feel a bit hot then when she took it off before going to bed she noticed some lumps but she thought it was from the excitement of the day - a week later the lumps had still not gone down and were turning red, lasted for over a month even when given steroid cream by her GP - thankfully her skin never blistered or she would have had scars on her face - I think she complained but they wouldn't accept responsibility for it, so she just made sure that I and all her other clients heard her tale so we're not going to get our makeup done at that counter ever!

I have to say Ive only once used a professional make up artist when I was a lot younger. She made me look like a clown and unfortunately that has scared me off using one again. Though I am fairly sure I just got v unlucky with who I picked.

I am buying good quality make up like bare essentials, benefit and estee lauder and doing it myself. Seems logical as I am the only person who knows what I like and been doing it all these years. This way it costs about the same as a make up artist but I get to keep all the make up afterwards.

Oooo bridalmiss you reminded me I need new make up brushes! lol

If you are thinking about doing it yourself, I got my most of my make up in one kit from a certain chemist that sell a professional make up kit for £50 instead of the usual £310 when you buy perfume of the same brand.. Its got quite a bit of stuff in. My 2 xmas presents sorted, kids bought me the perfume and steve bought me the professional make up set. yeyeyyyy Just my skincare to go now, luckily my birthday is in february.

I am having my makeup done by a professional for uk and for Spain, our photographer is also a skilled make up artist so she has agreed to do my makeup for next to nothing. I chose this because even though I do like my makeup a certain way, a good MUA will take your usual makeup into consideration, if you take photos of what you woud like and what you usually do they will work with that and they also know how to work your face for the cameras... A lot of people say they felt like a clown, unfortunately sometimes makeup needs to be heavy, especially for certain styles, to even show up on photos!

I once went on a big photoshoot and the day of I woke up with Mt Everest on my chin. This spot was the mama of all spots, it was huge, red and very sore. When I showed up, Charlotte the MUA was fine with it, she was able to hide my nasty face invader completely and the photos were brilliant, you cant even tell I had anything there! I would never have been able to hide it myself, and better still the makeup lasted all day!

I will be doing my own make up as I like it to look natural and I can then touch up throughout the day.

I seen a couple of girls on don't tell the bride who had to take all the professionals make up off and do it themselves so I've been a bit put off and thinking of doing it myself. I've got about a year and a half to go so i might start practicing on myself and take some photos on my camera or something to see what looks best.

Does anybody know any good makeup to get for a wedding? I've heard MAC do some good stuff (never tried it though)

    xx

Yeah but don't forget the DTTB girls have never had their makeup trials either so may not be happy with the look their groom has advised the makeup artist to do! I've heard of people using benefit, bobbi brown, personally I love Lancome eyeshadows, it's just what you feel comfortable with - definitely use a primer under your makeup to reduce shine, and overall the traditional look is usually quite natural so it should be fine to do it yourself - I just want to be pampered so have booked an artist to do mine!

I had a makeover phjotoshoot a few years ago that was a birthday gift and found that the makup artist put the makeup on so thick I literally felt like it was cracking when I was having the pics taken! I have a really oily Tzone too and use makeup that I know doesn't slip off when my skin gets really oily. I don't like the feeling of think makeup anyway and I know what looks right on me. I used to work at the well known chemist you mentioned Stevie_Dee and use their own premium brand range of cosmetics as they use the same technology as more expensive premium brands but cost less. xx

I too don't like thick makeup on. I think i might just do it myself but get a facial beforehand.
I've got dry skin and my cheeks can get quite red so i am going to use a green primer to hide the redness.

I have a green colour calmer and an anti shine lotion that I put on the relevant areas but I dont like make up too think as I have freckles and most makeup is put on so think it covers them. With having freckles all year round I dont want to hide them, they make me me :)
Might ask some advice about how it will show up on the photos as makeup tends to show that you have less on in photos than reality xx

My favourite thing is the make up fixer from Clarins. Its keeps your make up in place for longer but is alos a cooling mist. Will definately have it in my lil bag on the day.
