just a little bit concerened at the price of alcohol at the venue i chose. i didnt really think to check the prices of drinks at the bar but we called the other for a drink and a pint of lager was £4.00. where we live you can expect to pay between £2.80 and £3.50 at the most.
i know a few weddings i've been too and heard people complaining about the price of alcohol just dont want that to be all thats remembered.
i know i am paying alot of money for these people to come and shouldnt care but i do as i would probably think the same myself!
anyone else finding the same??

Yeah ours is really expensive too! All of our day guests are staying at the hotel so we are advising them to bring some drink with them for inbetween the day and evening if they wish, i now they shouldnt but we have done this before at weddings xx

Jesus!! i never thought too check any other drinks as my partner didnt mention it until we got in the car!!! think i will email for a price list!! annoys me how they can charge such redicilous prices when your paying over rated prices for things like reception drinks and toast drinks anyway!! xx
CommentAuthormym72
I think a lot of people expect bar prices to be higher in hotels, especially at weddings etc anyway so I wouldn't worry too much.
CommentAuthorVickie
if I remember correctly our venue is the same, not sure how much though plus they only like cash not cards so will have to state in on invite too. xxx

Were having our reception at a village hall that has its own proper bar with beer on tap aswell, all pints of beer are £3 and mostly all other drinks are under £3 or under.

We didn't want the guests paying hotel prices for drinks so that was part of the reason we are going to a local sports club for the evening do (it's nicer than it sounds though, has recently been refurbed) but it was mostly because our day venue wasn't very well set up for night dos.
We did go to one wedding where it was like a fiver a drink, and some guests did complain, however most just accepted it (or smuggled there own beer in)
At the end of the day, it's a one off occasion and one of the most important days of your life...the important people won't begrudge paying a bit extra for the drinks.
That said, if your guests are all struggling financially, it might cause a few problems...

I wouldn't worry too much,i think that when you go to a wedding its 'a given' that the drinks are going to be a bit more expensive as you are a captive audience. It certainly wouldn't upset me as a guest x

I went to a wedding at a big hotel (Paris's family own it) and it £5 for vodka and coke. I had been pre warned so had a little bottle in my bag :D

We never thought to check the price of drinks at our bar as we're providing a lot already so will only be in the evening I think that people will want to buy anything, I've no idea what ours charge. £4 a pint is rather steep! Saying that, when I am a guest I don't mind paying that little extra for drinks. xx

Yeah, drinks can be so expensive.
We have decided to put quite a lot of money behind the bar and make drinks half price all night (and soft drinks will be free).
Rather than it being purely free and people all rushing and panic buying (!!!), if the drinks are simply half price, I hope they will take their time a bit and the money will last longer.
If we didn't have the option of putting money behind the bar, I would definitely be encouraging people to bring a cheeky little bottle of vodka in their handbags!! x

hotels are usually overpriced and most people expect this. my neighbour is buying a box of wine and taking the bag out and putting it in her handbag, buying one glass of rose and then she is gunna top it up under the table hahahahaha!!! i think its the best way to get around it ever!!! she also has some juice in her room so everytime the kids wants a drink she's gunna take there sports bottles up to the room and dilute it which i think is another genius idea!
she better make sure she has a big handbag as she'll be carrying my wine as well hahahaha!
